Automatic Temperature Controller

I'm looking for information / recommendations on automatic temperature controller for my new 18 1/2 . I came across a site for the Pitmaster IQ110 and wonder if there are others or how well this works?

There are others. Auber, Guru, Stoker, and a do-it-yourself Heatermeter. I imagine there are others as well.

I used to have a pitmaster and I believe it works as advertised. I did sell mine because I found I no longer used it -- I simply did not need that level of control over the pit. I do this as a hobby on weekends and part of it for me is manually controlling the pit. I can see where a competitor or caterer would require a bit more control over the process.

I purchased a used IQ 110 here from a member who was selling his. I purchased it because I wanted to make sure my overnight cooks go over without any issues. When I cook during the day and can watch the smoker, I do not use my IQ 110. Of course I am still getting used to my new WSM. Eventually I may feel confident enough to smoke with out it overnight.

I use a guru party q on my 22.5" wsm and works well for me. I'm semi sheltered so don't fight weather too much. Like others have said, the more you cook, the less you'll use it. Mostly as a back up and for overnights. Was a great crutch to get started though. One less thing to worry about. Good luck and enjoy
