I stopped using the Brinkman charcoal pan as my WSM water pan several years ago, but recently I discovered that it works very well as an ash catcher for my OTS--holds many more ashes before it needs to be dumped!
Ditto for the wsm water pan. I ordered an ash catcher for my old $35 stainless performer grill...It must have been a pain to affix it to the grill , so the water pan came to the rescue. It has worked well for a few years...the Piedmont Pan has negated any need for a water pan.
