Anyone use orange wood for smoking?

I live in So. Cal a block away from hundreds of orange trees. I always see orange wood for sale at the side of the road (or free).

Anyone have any experience using this wood (or other citrus wood) for smoking? And what meats work best-beef, pork, poultry, etc?

There is a ton of this wood over here, so I thought, maybe I could use it.

Thanks
Wayne

Hi Wayne, although I have never used orange wood for smokin', I know someone that has and I've tasted her results.
Orange is EXCELLENT for exactly what you've mentioned: Beef, Poultry and Pork.
My friend made boneless/skinless chicken thighs using orange on her grill with a citris basting sauce that was so spectacatular, I can STILL taste it today!
I've also had orange smoked center-cut pork chops that were OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD AWESOME!
I tellya Wayne, if you're not gonna use it, I'll send you my home address and you can box me up a bunch and I'll use it

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna have to give it a try. What, no orange trees in Wisconsin? Oh well, you guys got cheese curds

I use more citrus wood than anything else, especially for poultry and fish. Good for lighter pork (loin, tenderloin) or for lamb. For beef, I think there are better choices though it will work.

Wayne, I use orange wood more than any other. I live in south Florida so it's easy to come by here. Has a great smell and adds great flavor.
