Anyone know anything about petroleum lines?

So as the title says. Came across this installation while out on our hike. Notice the sign indicating it goes to the Rockford Airport. BTW which is the 3rd busiest UPS cargo hub in the country. Also a huge cargo hub for Fed Ex, Amazon Prime Air, DHL as well as some passenger service. Like all airports with larger operations it uses under the wing fueling. I.E. the fuel is pumped up from a "tap" under the apron.

So I wonder.................Is this line carrying jet fuel or crude oil?

My bet would be jet fuel. There's a similar line running from the refinery that I [used to] pass twice daily on my work commute to MSP. Considering all of the air traffic that these 2 airports see, I wouldn't want to think about how many tanker trucks it would take to keep up.

The refinery I pass also had a 24" line (NG or something similar) ran to the peaker plant on the edge of town a few years ago. Crews worked for a couple of months for about a 15-20 mile line that crossed the highway a couple of times and went under a running railroad.

Natural gas? I have no idea, but I wouldn't think jet fuel gets piped long distance, although I think jet fuel is a grade of kerosene and maybe it is? Probably not crude. Unless they have a refinery.

Edited to add:. Based on the above reply, maybe it is jet fuel. But the pipe is coming from what refinery?

Peaker plants around here (between Chicago and Milwaukee) are fed with natural gas as far as I know.

And the former home of the long-gone Skyroom:

Which has nothing to do with the subject of this thread, but IS conversation.;)

Yeah I am kinda in the jet fuel camp. It is a relatively new line too. Ever since RFD landed that UPS hub we get lots of planes and I don't think they want tanker trucks running all that fuel for big freighters here. So they have put a "tank farm" at KRFD not too long ago. I don't know of any refineries in the area though. BTW there is a peaker plant just south of Woodstock IL (Groundhog Day). I remember them building it and people being all up in arms about it. I think there is also one to the east of me near Marengo IL
