Another Road trip...this time a Genesis Platinum 2

Some of you may have read my post where I drove 450 miles to pick up a 4900 Genesis.

http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?65755-Genesis-4900-5000

This wasn't quite as bad, only 373 miles round trip to pick up this 1996 3200 Platinum 2 :D

This one was also in New York (why are all the good ones in NY?),and besides the flaking paint on the side shelf and side burner assembly it is in great shape. I made the trip down fathers Day as a "gift" to myself.

After a quick wash-down, some scrubbing of the firebox and grates, and replacing the igniter and thermometer I hooked up my old school Weber quick release tank (it pays to never throw anything out :p), and was off and cooking.
This one has the smoker box as well as the Rotisserie too.

I will pull this one apart while I use the 4900 (sitting in the background) and ultimately one of them will have to go. My Brother has already expressed interest in buying one so that will please the Wife.

Very nice grill, driving that far to pick up two grills is pure dedication. You put more mileage getting those grills than I put on my truck all of last year.

Love that blue Jeff. I also spend some time in the Weber section of CL. I recently sold the Silver A that I cleaned up and am in the process of building a Redhead Genesis B Gold hybrid. I bought the Genesis Gold off of CL and my neighbor was throwing away an old rusted frame Genesis 1000 with a red hood.

For what 700 miles of driving would cost me with my Infiniti QX4 I could buy a new grill.....................................yeah it's a gas hog LOL

Another nice find, and the price sounds right too!
The price was about an 1/8 of a new Genesis so not bad in my book.

Rich,
Not sure if it's pure dedication or not but the road trip was fun. The first time with a good friend and second time with my Brother so I consider that a bonding experience.

I too was drawn to the blue and being a Platinum II just helped the cause all the more.

Wow!
I'm afraid to drive my 2000 Ranger that far:p

I too was a bit afraid to take my 2004 Honda Pilot for the journey bit it's been a reliable vehicle since new. Gas wasn't too bad and I had to buy my buddy dinner and my Brother Breakfast but in the end I think it was worth it.

Wednesday was a real good day for the Platinum 2.

Wanted to pick up a cover for the grill and from reading the last several years Weber covers leave a lot to be desired, unlike the cover on my recently sold 700 Spirit which was almost 10 years old and still going strong.
Made several call and e-mails and finally located one at a Agway in Keene New Hampshire so I made the trek and picked it up.

It's the "Old School" Premium cover #9954 which is a heavier, rubberized-like cover with the vents front and rear and fits the 3200 like a glove. The date on the box shows 7/00 so it's been there for some time.
Even better it was half off on the clearance rack.

Part 2...
I spotted this on e-bay on the past auctions and it didn't meet reserve so I contacted the seller in Maine and we agreed on a price that worked for both of us.

A brand new in the box, never used, #7601 side burner for a Platinum II. Did I need it? Not really, but I'll probably never find one in the future for a 19 year old grill.

I love the "new to you" BLUE grill. I've been perusing Craigslist now for a couple of months trying to find a Weber. I haven't seen a blue one yet. I've seen copper, red, green, burgundy, lime green performer…but never a blue. Great find!!

That side burner was a great find. It's how I got the side burner for my Summit. When I bought it there were none available and the new ones were very expensive. Ended up finding one on CL for $50

Just got off the line registering both of my "new" Webers with them.
The model #3200 is a 1996 model (Happy 20th!) and retailed at $1300.00.
