Amount of cooking time

I want to cook 2 items at once, do you have to double the time smoked to achieve done meat? More items must some how effect the overall cooking? Please advise.

If both meats are on the same rack the time will be just about the same as for one. What are you cooking?

Lew is right. Thing is it's also important to know if the items are the same? Are you mixing say a rack of ribs with a chicken?

Assuming say you have two pork butts, one 4lb one 7lb. The cook time would essentially be the same for each piece. I.E. the 4lb would most likely be done first, the 7lb second. But the overall cook time would be about the same as for the 7lb butt.

It may extend overall due to more ballast/load of meat until cooker temps come up - but that should be minor.

If you are mixing types of meat, then it gets a little more complicated, but regardless you cook until each item is done and the one that typically has the longer cook time will be the total window of time required for both, with the caveat that the total time may extend a little due to the cooker coming up to temp just a little slower related to the ballast/load from the food quantity and individual temps as they go on.

Pull each item separately as they are done.

I've done a number of mixed cooks and this has been my experience. If you are using multiple racks place the faster cooking items on the top and remove as they finish.
