did anyone else see that show where he took a box fan and some air filters and made a food dehydrator?

reason being he said is that normal food dehydrators use a heat source plus fan and more r less cooks the meat as his way just slowly drys it by cooling it with alotta air flow........

has anyone tried this yet? and if so how did it work out?

ty for ur replys

yeah, I saw that one.....I was going to try it but, after buying a CLEAN fan I thought I might as well use the wsm....worked great

I've seen that and have tried it. I don't like the idea of raw meat touching air filters that were never intended to be food grade, so instead of air filters, I used my food dryer trays and attached them with bungie cords. It was much quicker than drying in the food dryer, and didn't cook the meat, but it was rather messy and hard to get it to stay put.

Yes. One needs to take AB with much more than a grain of salt. He is a cook-slash-entertainer. Let's not imbue him with more than reality.

david i think the whole point of useing the filters were the ridges on them used for holding the jerky, verses the trays u use that were just flat, i also thought of useing something other then those ridged filters, but alwaYS CAME BACK TO THE PROBLEM F WHAT WOUL HOLD THEM IN PLACE.....oops sorry caps....
im think useing any kind of cloth to prevent it from touching the filters would help alot...
but then again i really have to think it to be safe if they r touching the filters, AB could reallyyyy get into alotta trouble if not....i would think, i'm betting they check everything...

Kevin, not to put AB on a pedestal, but when i think of a cook i think of someone at the waffle house....are myself....yes entertainer but he still has to know what he's talking about no matter from who/where he gets his info from....JMO
