I wonder if this is just with my model, or all of them, but my WSM has enough air leaking into it that I cannot fully extinguish the charcoal after cooking. The sheet metal door has a gap, and the middle section does not fit tightly on the lower section (one of them is out of round a little).

Is this common? Has anyone actually sealed the unit?

My Weber kettle on the other hand, is air tight and extinguished coals quite fast.

The Part Troubleshooting page contains information on how you can resolve these problems. They are not uncommon problems, especially the gap around the access door. However, there's no need to "seal the unit". It's not meant to be airtight...but you should be able to close all the vents and extinguish the coals within a couple of hours.

Regards,
Chris
