I wanted to share my modification for adding the OTG ash catcher to an older 22.5" kettle.
The aluminum collar will not snap onto the leg sockets of older kettles, so it has to be securely fastened in some other way to the legs. I've seen several mods showing how people have done this, but I decided to do it using the standard ash catcher clips. I ran them all the way up to the top of the legs as shown in these photos:
I inserted the clips through each opening in the collar and used a pen to mark where the wire contacted the tab. I used tin snips to cut a small notch at each spot. When inserted, the three clips firmly engage the three tabs, with the notches keeping everything tightly connected.
The result is a good looking and functional OTG ash catcher.
Regards,
Chris
