A recent 1998 Genesis 1000 I picked up - yet another project...

Yesterday I decided to pick up another Weber about an hour away from my house in Front Royal, VA. Although it was $50, the condition of the lid and frame looked very good. I have a grill or two ahead of this but I'm excited about this one. Here are some shots. I think I will hold for awhile on grill acquisitions! inbound7020414044876622759.jpginbound2014316436152161193.jpginbound2817943049444866758.jpg

Thanks Samuel. I think so too. It doesn't have the sliding table mechanism but I think that feature can be retrofitted.
are you just wanting to change it over to a slider vs. solid rod? I like the security/stability of the rod. A little more cumbersome to set up. But I think the table feels more stable with the original designed (non-slider) folding table.

It can no problem, you just need the parts.
Looks like a solid find
Thanks LMichaels, it turned out to be very clean. Large portions of the inside of the lid are clean porcelain with no char. I don't see any frame rust either. The lid is scratch less. I think the manifold and cookbox bolts will come off cleanly. I don't think it was used much and probably covered or under cover for years. Will need paint on the endcaps and wood working but I think it will turn out nice. I want to find some table slide parts but not in a rush.

Trade parts with Val, then you'll both be happy. I much prefer the slider myself and it never failed to work properly in 25 years of using that setup.

I would be happy to trade, but not willing to pay anything, even if it’s just shipping. I have a few sets of each, but short on the SS piece that holds the rod.
This grill didn't come with a ss clip. Either the clip was lost or it looks like you just stick the support rod in a hole on the frame. It sounds like Bruce has the clip and he is closer to you. I would be curious if anyone knows anything about the history of the retracting table types and the dates they were implemented by Weber. I'm guessing the slide mechanism came after 1998.

There is a hole there that the locks the stainless clip in. The only difference between using that SS clip versus the hole is the table doesn’t sit flush. But still works fine.

That would make sense. This one is my work grill, it was missing the folding table when I got it, but that clip was there. That is now going to bug me until I take the 10 seconds to flip it around :ROFLMAO:

*edit* - switched it around

It would bug me too but as far as function im sure it's fine either way

I have picked up grills where the flip table slide mechanism did not slide well and I had to help it along the entire way which made it not ideal or convenient but this was easily remedied by waxing the slide. After that it worked flawlessly and slides effortlessly into locking position making it quite convenient. I know others have used lubrication for this effect which I'm sure works great also but probably attracts dust and dirt to your slide which seems less ideal just in my opinion.
