A little OXO trouble

So the new machine comes. Brand new outta the box. You're supposed to wash the items and then brew water through it. So, I do and the first thing the unit does is shut down with an HHHHHH code (over heated). So I let it cool, try again then after it cycles, it flashes up on the screen it needs a cleaning. So, I run a clean cycle (just water no descaler). Finally after this it runs.
So this AM it made a great pot of jo. But, now I am a little "on edge" with it

That doesn't sound like a pleasant out of the box experience. That'd be quite the put-off for someone who'd just bought it.

Definitely going to call them on Monday. That is fo sho Though today other than my total brain fart (I always fill the carafe with hot water night before, so last night I simply left that last batch of hot water in it) where I forgot to empty the carafe BEFORE I brewed. Needless to say I had a full pot of coffee all over the counter(s). Total mess. Other than that this new machine behaved normally.

Just bought an Oxo grinder... highly rated and 30+% off for Black Friday. It's sitting unopened in the garage.
I used to have one. It's not a bad grinder. especially at the sale price. Though mine did not last through the warranty period. It began to get very noisy, then let out a loud "screeching" sound. And basically the shaft that drives the center burr had given up the ghost. Two things though to be entirely fair.
One, I think I may have over used it. At the time I used to "batch" grind. IOW I'd do enough coffee to last 3 days or so. Basically close to a half lb of coffee at one time. So I think I may have done it in as opposed to simply filling the hopper and grinding my daily dose of about 70 grams.
Second, OXO to their credit sent me a new grinder under warranty. Though by this time I was able to order a similar unit from Amazon getting it within a day. Since when the OXO gave it up, I had no grinder=no coffee=unhappy me :D
The cheap Chinese grinders I'd bought served pretty well so I sold the OXO brand new unopened for more than I'd paid for 2 of the Chinese ones (to be fair unless you spend copious sums of $$$$ even many of the top name ones i.e. Breville, KitchenAid, Baratza, and many more are all made in China). I only call them "Chinese grinders" as they have strange names like Shidip, Shardor, etc. It's usually not until you get to $600 or more to find ones not made there.
Anyway I currently have a KitchenAid Conical burr grinder and a Breville Smart Grinder Pro. Both of which I'm finding to be extremely good machines. I keep one set up for my daily batch brews and one set up for espresso grinding.
I think had I not beat the OXO into failure it would likely still be on my counter :D

I grind only for the pot I'm going to immediately brew...8-10 measured scoops. I might do 2 batches if we have company. Never more. I'm set up to store beans not grounds. All I know is that coffee from just ground beans is light years better than store bought ground coffee.

I'd started doing that prior to fully retiring. So, back then I just found it faster back then to batch grind. Now, I grind what I need to make that pot or that hit of espresso

I weigh the beans into the drip cone and then put them in the grinder.

Before coffee, It's alot easier for me to get 80g than to count scoops.

I've got the grinder dialed in for my beans and grind setting. So if I want 45oz I tell the KA I want 9 cups and it grinds the right amount, if I want less it's dialed in for settings from 30oz of water to 50oz. I double check it on the scale but it's been coming out perfect every time
