I'm tackling my second cook on the new wsm, st. louis style ribs. Had to take one pack back to winn dixie b/c it wasn't ribs, it was the flap from the ribs, yuk.
While at winn dixie, i passed by the charcoal isle on accident, they were well stocked. I noticed a brand i've never seen, called Nature's Grilling from Colorado. They make lump and 100% natural briquettes. I was able to find a small review written on the smokering website but surprisingly, not much on this site or in general. Since they were offered at buy one get one free, I decided to give the briqsu a try. I filled the ring with one full weber chimney and put 20 additional pieces in a second chimney as my starter. In total, this was appx 6 lbs of the 9 lb bag (i bought the 100% natural briq, not the lump). So far, temps came up nicely, settling in at 235* in one hour. Vents now 1/3 open and burning steady, with bluish smoke billowing out (two chunks of oak).
anyone familar with this product? The bags are 9lbs, cost $4.99 but w/ the special, they are $2.50 each. they reportedly burn hotter, longer and produce less ash than other briquettes. I don't have enough experience to know whether this is true, but will get an idea as to how i like them. I think their website is http://www.naturesgrilling.com
