I’m going to buy my dad the Weber rotisserie for his 22 ½ inch charcoal grill. I’ve been looking around the internet for additional info on accessories and came across this site. I have a few questions and hope someone can help:

1) I want to buy a set of extra spits in case we want to do 2 birds at once. I see several out there, but does anyone know the size of the Weber rotisserie rod for the 22 inch kettle, is it 5/16, 1/2, or 5/8 inch square?

2) I also want to buy a rotisserie basket. The one I have seen:

http://www.amazon.com/Napoleon...id=1297276543&sr=1-3

Seem to be around 19” x 8” in size. The 19” length seems OK, but the 8” width seems to be a bit small for a 22 inch kettle. I’ve seen a few photos on this site and others showing a rotisserie basket in a kettle grill and they all seem wider than 8”. Is it a photographic illusion or is there a rotisserie basket out there wider than 8 inches? If so, can you let me know where to find them?

3) Finally, I’m assuming when using the rotisserie, using charcoal on only one side is OK. I’m thinking placing coals on both sides will unnecessarily burn more coals.

Thanks Much

Hi Al,
First let me welcome you to the best BBQ site on the WWW.
Now for your questions.
#1 5/16
#2 Check here for Roto parts
#3 I do my "spinning" with coals on one side only.
In my opinion, A rotisserie is a must have accessory for a Weber kettle. I use mine 4 to 5 time a month for meats, veggies, and fruit.
Hope this helps.

Mac:

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I'll be searching the site for rotisserie recipies as soon as I get my dad set-up.

The link for the roto parts is for a basket 7.5 inches wide. I guess the pictures I've seen with the basket in the grill, makes the basket look larger than it really is.

Thanks.

an extra set of forks is nice but you can cook two chickens with just one set. just put the neck sides together. i would recommend that you get a stainless steel basket. i wasted money on two non ss baskets. didn't take long for them to rust even with the care i give them. ss also cleans easier.

Jeff:
Thanks for the recipe site. It looks really good. I think there are enough recipes on that site to last me and my dad for 2 years. I would have never thought about putting a whole pineapple on a rotisserie.

I also see what George was saying about not needing an extra set of forks in order to do 2 birds at once.

Thanks

WARNING! Doing Pineapple's on the Rotisserie can be/is addicting.
