22" cooking grate source

Hey guys, I deal mostly with gas grills, but I decided to rehab a Performer for the experience. I need a new cooking grate for sure (22") and probably a coal grate. What is a good source for them. I am not looking for top of the line or anything, just decent grates that I won't be ashamed of to put on a flip grill.
Aftermarket is fine.

Performers come with plated steel cooking grates.
It’s a flip, just clean up the old grates. That’s all I do on Kettle and performer flips.

(edit: changed SS to plated)

I can look thru my Weber grate stash. I’m sure I can find a charcoal and cooking grate. Free of charge!

I can have them shipped for about $10

(Edit added) you’ll have to spend 15 minutes cleaning them.

Would they be SS and would the clean up nice?
How do you clean them? Wire wheel on angle grinder?

I don’t think I have any SS 22” cooking grates in the shed. Regular steel grates will clean up with a wire wheel, Off oven cleaner and SOS steel wool pads. They will never shine like new.
The cheap chrome plated grates are junk.

In my opinion most performer users would prefer a hinged cooking grate for an SnS or double hinged for dual Weber Char baskets.

I actually have a new Weber #7436 grate with the hinged panels on each side. Problem is, it is at my sister's 240 miles away. I don't think those are stainless, but it will have to do for a flip I guess. I just have to wait to get it from her.

My performer does have the dual char baskets as well.

A person IMO who buys a performer and many of us have them including myself looks for a few things and tends to be a more knowledgeable buyer again IMO. The charcoal baskets for sure and the hinged grates so you can reload charcoal lets be clear their is no performer that comes with Stainless Steel Grates they are all plated. Do you have gas assist on this performer? That is a big used selling point how are the casters are they shot because they can only be bought from Weber they are round not square on the the Genesis gassers.

What Gen is this performer post a picture we can figure it out.

I just did a Gen 2 performer for a friend of mine less than a month ago I needed casters, the charcoal grate and a few other things which you may not need.

They discounted the holders by 1/2 abd the charcoal grate by 1/2 you only need maybe the casters and the charcoal grate as well as the top grate. If you can put an order together for other stuff and get over $50.00 if you don't want to drive 240 miles they may discount the top grate also. The usual deal easier if you have the serial to identify what gen it is but my friend could not identify it on his grill cause they went to paper and it was gone however their is a code on the lid that will nail down the year at least that the kettle was manufactured.

Yep, it is gas assist and works now that I unclogged the orifice. Casters are good. And yes, I have the coal bin and two half moon shaped coal trays in pretty good shape.

That is a Gen 3 the plastic tables generally cracked as people if the move them would pick them up by the end especially if the the casters were bad and the table would crack on the first screws from right to left. If yours is not cracked big bonus there, gas assist big selling point would not buy one and I bought mine used unless it had the gas assist.

So same drill Bruce I used the sam's stuff inside the bowl with a metal 1 1/2 blade scraper go from top to bottom start on an edge and move your way along around the bowl clean the sweepers so you need to move them to finish the bowl. Simple green and the usual 0000 steel wool you will be shocked how a kettle cleans up sames as the lid on a 1000 or whatever.

The inside of the lid will be easier don't think on the one I did recently but maybe I did use the sams but the simple green and steel wool shoud do the job.

I have a 55 gallon outside container it is great for doing this, line it with a bag drop the bowl on leave the bottom vent open scrape everything down.

EDIT: By the way there is no way to clean those grates up when they are toast they are plated steel. Your first impression is to open the lid and see nice non rusted grates if your a buyer. :)

Sorry forgot to post this from WKC identifies the performer gen. http://weberkettleclub.com/grills/weber-performer-history/

Brian, I pretty much have the whole grill done now. I just need to put the wire bottom rack back on and drop in a 22" cooking grate. The bottom rack is hanging in the garage, but it was painted yesterday, so it should be ready to go now. It is not a pristine grill, but it will work as designed and there are no broken tables or anything else really damaged. A couple dings in the bottom bowl that touched up with HH Rustoeleum Ultra is about it.

Good job as usual you should do well with that grill. Maybe its another way to make you some money on rehabs. Performers do not come up very often even in Metro Atlanta and even if they do prices not that great, people who own them love them.

HD, Ace or any Weber dealer.
A top or bottom ( charcoal) grate for a 22.5" kettle is what you want.
Standard top grate is solid, but you can buy the flip up sides for a OTG/ Performer for more.
