On my 18-inch kettle grill I can use the hook inside the lid to hang the lid on the edge of the grill, but on my 22-1/2, I can't. The only way to hang the lid by the hook is to hang in on one of the handles, and I melted a handle doing that. Do other 22-1/2 inch grills have this same problem, or is the hook on my lid installed in the wrong place?

It's very hard for me to hang it on the bowl. Its very awkward needing to push into it so much. My Kettle is an 08. Have you tried bending the hook? I find it so easy to use the handle I just place it there. It does get dirty though. Maybe just taking off the plastic handle would be better.

I could hang mine but had to be very careful. I almost lost it once my concrete patio. I added a slide-a-side. If you get a slide-a-side, you need to know that it will make air leaks worse and you'll need to remove it if you want to save coals or put a cover on. I could get the cover on but it was difficult. I just remove mine after the cook and store it in the grill. Beats risking cracking the lid or injury bending over at my age and waistline. Getting dizzy and tipping over is a real concern.

My old BBQ Kettle is the same way, I have to hang it on the side handle. (luckily it's metal so no problem)

Unfortunately, my red 22.5 lid has been dropped this year (TWICE)

due to the hook missing the bowl when I thought I had it on!Talk about knee-jerk colorful language spouting from my mouth when it happened both times! It caused my first porcelain chip (albeit tiny) on my lid. GRRRR!! It boogered up my refinished handle pretty good too (i got new ones from Brian after that). I do think that the lid hooks original intent was to hang on the original metal bowl handles, but the redesign to wood-later plastic made people move to hanging on the bowl rim itself w/o damaging the handles.
