OK, I just put my 2 super bowl butts on the cooker.

I apologize in advance for any distress calls I may need to do later on. (so far so good though)

Now, my latest dilemma, I am from NY, so I really should want the Giants to win, but the Patriots have a chance at the record of a lifetime.
I guess who cares, as long as the BBQ is good!

That's all that matters. If the BBQ flops who cares who wins the game. I put my butts on at 8:30. I live in Florida and we have a warm night with no breeze, but temp is holding nicely at 230 surface 250 lid

My butts went on at 9:50 EST. It is 32 degrees outm and the wind is a nice calm 2mph.
Just checked the temp and I am at 230.

I think my butts should be coming off at around 2 or 3 maybe, judging only be the Mr. Brown link, since this is my first butts and only 2nd cook.

I have a thread in the "new owner" area I have been updating, but I can come here too if you want to compare.

I have been taking pics along to, for a slideshow tomorrow maybe.

245 now at 11pm

I am hoping it doesn't climb much more, but I can take the jacket off to lower the temp if necessary.

That happens to be exactly where I am at.

I am adjusting my vents repeatedly, but I would like to get some sleep soon.

255 now, not what I was hoping. I wish it would level off soon.

What is the max temp before I start to worry?
I could take the jacket off, but then I am at the mercy of the wind if it picks up. All my vents are already closed.

I hope to have steady temps by 12 so i can get some Z's too. May for an hour, then 2.

11:20 pm, holding steady at 2.25.
2 vents open 1/4, the other closed.
I will get up around 3 am to check on things.
Hope all goes well!

Get some rest.

Me on the other hand, have now reached 270, so I took the jacket off.

I just hope the wind remains calm.

I am not a pro at this, but 250 is the max.
What are you using, water or clay pot? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Trying to get it back down. I have seem others with spikes over 300 and things came out OK.

I am doing my first clay pot, 14"

I think i may have started with too many lit coals, 15. I was expecting lower temps.

Put 2 on myself at around 9:45. 6 racks of Baby Back's, 10lbs Wings, 1 fattie, beans, coleslaw, beer and SoCo. Should be pretty good.

Well, temps are down to 230 with removing the jacket. Now if i could find a nice middle ground.

I am debating how to rest, at low temps (230) or high (270)

I guess I will see how temps look at 12.

I did forget that it is a new smoker, so temps will run a bit high.

Wow. that is a lot of stuff to fit on the smoker!

Been a steady 230 for 1/2 hour now, so I will let it go a while, once again, as long as the wind stays calm.

I am sure as soon as my eyes close it will pick up.

What do the experienced people recommend? Would I be better off wrapping the smoke at letting it sit at 270ish, or keep 230 and hope for the best?

Jon, I do my butts at 225 grate. I just so happen to have 18 lbs of Mr. Brown on and I'm sitting at 230 myself. Very windy out side and it's raining like crazy. Should be an interesting night.

I put my butts on at 8:30. Its a very nice night 61 right now and no wind. I live in Florida. I will be coming up on the 9 hr mark in about 2 hrs, all is going well. Jon I never can sleep very well when I am doing an all night smoke. I try to get some sleep, more or less I toss around and get up any way.

Well, i got a couple 2-hour naps in.

I went with-out the jacket and the winds have stayed low. They are picking up a bit ow, but luckily my house is blocking them.

The outdoor temp stayed pretty much at 32 all night.

Temp stayed 230 from 11:45 until my 3:30 check, where I read 220. Cracked each of the vents and was at 250 at 4:00. Now at 8 I am back to 230.

At 9 I am going to flip, mop and stir the coals a bit to see if I have enough fuel to make it through.

How is the Stoker handling the weather Larry?
