18.5 water pan (new style)

Would someone please tell me from what other Weber part this water pan originates? I'm thinking I read or was told at one point it's the base of the Smokey Joe. It's surplus to me and I was thinking with some work it could be the beginning of a Mini WSM

i heard that the water pan for the 18 WSM is the bottom of the smoker joe. its real deep.

I noticed it does not have the same crimp around the top of the bowl as the Smokey Joe.

It could be that Weber just uses that same mold and doesn't crimp the edge, and later folds the edge like the lid??

I think the 18 WSM used the *lid* of the Smokey Joe for the water pan.

Maybe for the older model Mike but this is much deeper than the older water pan so I'm sure it's not the lid but thanks for your input.

Oh, right, my mistake. I have a 2008 WSM, with the shallower water pan. Sorry about that.

Water pan?!? They should call that thing a water tank! I couldn't believe how big it was when I unboxed mine!!
