Mini WSM From Canada!

Hi,

Finally got all the part to assemble my mini WSM.
It's based of a Silver that I bought in USA couple weeks ago.

My tools are limited, but I managed to do something that'll work and doesn't look to bad.

I've reuse part of the lid that I riveted to the remaining bottom as a heat diffuser holder.

Tin foil covered 12.5" flower pot, sit nicely on the 3 bottom "legs". Only got original grate for now.

No termometer (yet), but I've got a probe port on the back for my iGrill2. I can sit the ambient probe right under the grate.

I'll try to grab more photo of the whole beast when it's nice and sunny this week-end.

I can't wait to use it, I've had a pork belly curing in the fridge for 7 days waiting to be smoked.

Hopefully it'll sit nicely next to its big brother 22" Master Touch Kettle.

p.s. If anyone got tip to drill into stainless steel pet bowl, let me know. That thing is HARD, I managed to do 1 single 3/8 hole for now :(

Hey Andre, glad to see you got your pot. Looks good. I went and bought a good quality drill bit at an industrial supply store made for hard metals like stainless. Made a huge difference.

Well it's not sunny this week-end, but I started this mini WSM journey cold smoking bacon. Not much heat for now, but it's working quite nicely keeping everything at 75-85f.

The little guy on my tiny balcony.

The bacon after 1h or so.

Edit: Forgot to say I'm using a pellet smoking tube for the smoke, there's no way temps would stay that low with coals.

Welcome to the forums! You did a nice job putting the mini-WSM together. Would like to see how the finished bacon turned out.

Anyone know if the 14" WSM grate fit in the pot?

Looks like it's the same size as the Smokey joe. Would be perfect as a bottom grate since it has handles.

The 14.5" WSM top cooking grate measures 13.5", and same diameter as the Smokey Joe grate. It should work as a bottom grate in a Mini WSM.

Thanks for the detailed information, this confirm what I found! Time to find one in Canukistan

Hi Andre, if you cannot find the WSM grate you could always fabricate handles from "U" bolts and fender washers and add them to the Weber SJ 7431 grate. $12.99 cdn on Amazon.ca

I found the WSM grate, it's twice the price as the 7431, but with how pricy the U bolt are locally, I'm wondering if I'd be losing that much money getting the WSM grate.

Thanks again for all those ideas, it surely give me more options to look at.
