Help on my mini - lower grate and heat shield

First of all, thanks to everyone who has posted on this thread. I have pored over it several times looking for the best way to set up my mini. I picked up a SJ silver for 10 bucks and I am about 75% done with it and am stumped on the final touches.

My first question is, Where is the best location for the heat shield/ second grate?

Currently I am set up to put the heat shield (I have a 9 inch and 11 inch aluminum pie pan depending on what I want to cook) on a cooking grate that sits on the steamer lip of the pot. However I feel that this does not give me much room for a cooking surface.

I am torn about drilling and mounting screws to support a lower position of the pans and placing the lower surface on the steamer lip of the pot. Any advice would be very helpful.. BTW I will post pics once set up.

I know this is old, but when I used a diffuser, I placed it on the lower rack.
