When did Weber stop using the 5 lb propane tank on the Performer? (reposted)

Somewhere between 1990 when the performer was introduced and 2005 when it was redesigned. The date code on the lid vent will tell you for sure. Sounds like you're getting a heck of a deal-rotisserie itself is $150 and rarely available used in my experience. Post pics when you grab it. See...

    Reheating from frozen foodsaver packets

So I got a foodsaver over the winter and with the nice weather have been smoking and saving the leftovers. I've read that lots of people just drop the bag in simmering water and let it go. When I've tried that, I've gotten frozen chunks in the middle each time that I had to microwave out after...

Wish I would have found this board 2 days ago - Genesis restore question

Steel wool and time will take it right off without damaging the porcelain. Why did you paint it?

    Performer Lid

I never noticed a problem with it and think it works pretty much perfectly for my needs. I don't like putting a hot/greasy lid on the deck or the table. I wish the WSM had something similar.

    Grilled Eggplant w/bruschetta

So on my way home today it was so nice I knew I had to grill, but didn't feel like a burger and ate chicken all weekend, so that was out. I saw that my mom had dropped off a bowl of overflow tomatoes from her garden and thought that maybe I could dice up some of the tomatoes. I remembered a big...

Grate replacement: Weber stainless or charbroil cast iron?

Just like the topic says, i'm curious to hear opinions as to which grate I should switch my old rusty performer grate to. Price is almost identical-$37 shipped for the stainless vs $$35 shipped for the cast iron. I have some old gas cast grates I can put on top of thin ones, but they don't fit...

First charcoal grilling on the Performer

Change will to do! Been daydreaming all week about during work about what i'm cooking this weekend. And lew, I seem to always jump into things like that...learned to ride motorcycles not with a little Honda 250 but on a full dress Harley. Anybody that's on the fence about this grill, it's...

    paint

A little degreaser on the red, wipe off the heavy stuff, and then buff with 0000 grit steel wool. Looks like brand new. I don't think it matters which paint you use for the frame-it shouldn't get hot enough to matter for the frame. Clearly, for the firebox and sides of the hood you should use...

First charcoal grilling on the Performer

So I've been cooking with charcoal for around a year since I got my WSM. Prior to that I was strictly a gas grill guy. After seeing how amazing the WSM was, and how it was designed to help make amazing food, I read a lot here and eventually acquired a Performer on the super cheap (see charcoal...

Real newbie question about Genesis 1000

You just need to change the manifold. Burners are exactly the same. The manifold will change out the jets and give you a spot to connect the regulator/tank. However, supposedly Weber will ask for a model number when you try to buy manifolds to ensure that it isn't somebody trying to do a...

Cleaning Question and how I got into Weber Grills

If you're talking about the red enamel on the hood, 000 or 0000 grit steel wool will make it look like new. If it is wood on the slats you are talking about, you can repaint or sand and refinish, or cut new ones. If it is durawood, some generic degreaser and a nylon scrubby, or a mr clean...

Behold! The smoker cart of awesomness!!!!!

So, I got to thinking, my smoker could really use a table. And we all need a place to light our charcoal. So, a neighbor was getting rid of an old Charbroil (actually made in the USA, with a welded steel frame-it must of been really old). I grabbed another complete hunk of crap gasser somebody...

    Just joined the Performer club

Embarrassed to say that it took me this long to reassemble it and clean it up, but I've got it together (lost one washer, had two small pieces that I don't know what they do leftover). I found one very small ding on the edge of the lid and a few minor scratches (not through the enamel) from...

    Just joined the Performer club

These should be the pics that I copied from the ad. When I get it cleaned up, I'll take some new ones and post up, but I had to disassemble it to fit it in the car, and it is frosty outside right now.

    Just joined the Performer club

Posted this in trading post to brag, but had to give a post a permanent home too. Picked up my first performer tonight. Grey one, needs a little TLC (some rust on the grates, missing thermometer, charcoal baskets in rough shape) but lid, bowl and frame in excellent shape. Came with a full bag...

    Capturing drippings on 2 birds

So I'm considering doing 2 birds this weekend as part of a "friend" thanksgiving. If I use each rack to hold 1 bird, what's the best way to capture drippings? Let everything collect in the empty foiled pan? Rig up a disposable aluminum roaster under the top grate? Have them each sit in a...

My Jack Daniel's & Maple Syrup Brined Turkey w/Pics

I'm going to be trying this over the weekend as a practice bird. Picked up the bourbon and maple syrup (as somebody else pointed out, real maple costs more than the Thanksgiving discounted bird) Can Larry or anybody else confirm that there's no rub or oil or anything put on or in it? EDIT...
