    Heatermeter AP mode

Instead of trying to get 2 wifi dongles to work, I went and purchased a small travel wifi router: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00FRMAOIO/tvwb-20 I put it in AP mode and bingo, just was I am looking for when I'm away from home.

    Heatermeter AP mode

@WBegg - would you care to share more info about this setup? I've attempted to get this setup and did have it working except I no longer could access my heatermeter remotely. What I would like to do is have 1 dongle setup for my home, and if I go somewhere else I'd like to remove that dongle...

Thanks all. I'll keep an eye on the threads mentioned above.

    Snapshot Changelog

So I think this is the link to download heatermeter updates (http://capnbry.net/linkmeter/snapshots/bcm2708/) but wondering if there is a thread somewhere that outlines the changes, fixes, new features, etc for each revision?

Jeff. Sorry, it's already been sold.

    PartyQ for Sale

I purchased a PartyQ (https://www.bbqguru.com/StoreNav?CategoryId=1&ProductId=34) for my WSM a couple months ago. Shortly thereafter I stumbled upon the heatermeter project and went ahead and built myself one of those. I no longer have a need for the PartyQ. $160 new, and could sell for $100...

    The Development Log

Sorry if this is obvious, but if one were to upgrade to include the changes noted above - how would one do so? I installed initially by following the wiki (https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/HeaterMeter-4.x-Software)

    Blower Speed for New Build

Ralph - Your help has been most appreciated. I assumed that I had grabbed a standard CAT 5 patch cable (I didn't even look at the terminations, I just cut an end off and went to work. Turns out I grabbed a CAT 5 cable terminated as follows (white orange/orange; white blue/blue; white...

    Blower Speed for New Build

I cleaned between the connections and added a bit more solder and the blower still only has 1 speed. Attached are higher res photos. Any other suggestions? How would one go about testing the Q3 component to make sure it's good?

    Blower Speed for New Build

Thank you Ralph. I apologize for having to deal with my ignorance - I'm still learning resistor/transistor/mosfet/capacitor/diode/etc. I have zero knowledge as to the difference between them, and what their functions are. I'm at work now, but will check when I get home. I'll upload better...

    Blower Speed for New Build

After re-reading Ralph's reply, I now think the part you are speaking of is part # "Q3". If so, could the issue be that I did solder the tab to the PCB? The instructions say it's "not required" to solder the tab to the PCB with the standard blower - but I read that as it's not required, but...

    Blower Speed for New Build

Thank you Ralph Trimple. Below are a couple photos of the part I believe you are talking about. Is this the MOSFET that drives the blower? If so I don't believe I have a solder bridge.

    Blower Speed for New Build

I've finished my heater meter, and it booted up first try! After a bit of tinkering I think I've got everything working except the blower doesn't change speeds. When the heatermeter says 100%, the blower speed is the same as 10%, or even 0%. Any ideas what may be happening? I've attached...

    Parts Location on PCB

From the assembly page (https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/HeaterMeter-4.2-Assembly) it says "Raspberry Pi A+ Do not install R3 1k resistor at this time. See Pi APlus Modifications". Not a big deal as I'm not dealing with the A+ I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an link/article...

    Parts Location on PCB

So if I were building a heatermeter for the Raspberry Pi A+ (I'm not, just curious) how would I know which one is the R3 resistor to omit?

    Parts Location on PCB

Thanks for the quick reply. I do have a multi-meter - I'll have to lookup how to use it though as I'm a complete electronics noob. I'll be giving this another go on Sunday and may have to reply back with some additional questions, but it looks as if I just follow the labeling on the PCB and...

    Parts Location on PCB

I’m just now starting assembly of the heatermeter and the soldering is going well so far. I’m on the 1k resistor install and confused by the photo from the assembly page. The resistors circled in red are labeled on the PCB as 1k. The 1k I received and that are pictured in the resistor matrix...
