    Summit s-460 or s-660

We are looking at jumping in with both feet (so to speak) with a backyard redo...pool, patio, kitchen. Can anyone share their experience or impressions of the new summit s-460 or 660? I have looked around at a bunch of built in style grills and the high quality models are simply more than I...

Hey folks, it's a great day for the Rib-O-Lator! Yes it is...

Is that ring shorter than the weber? If so, does it still give you enough room on a kettle for a large turkey? Thanks!

    1st time pastrami questions

Would it be a bad idea to put the meat straight from the fridge into the smoker? That would give you more time in the smoke too. Bobby

    Outdoor Kitchen/Bar *****

lol! Thanks for the sage advice Phil. With some different brands of lump, I get a bunch of the "forge flies" that come out of the chimney when lighting that would be a little concerning if I was under a dried grass roof. My gasser has the occasional flare up if it gets too dirty that might be...

    Outdoor Kitchen/Bar *****

I would be a little nervous about grilling under (or near the edge)of one of those covers. They look pretty flamable. Something a little more flame resistant would be my first choice. Bobby

    What the Firebricks?

Give these guys a call. I bought a couple from them individually for not much $$. Not sure how far Joliet is from you but it may be more convenient or cheaper than paying for shipping. Gulf Eagle Supply bd

    Cooking Ribs early

Guys, I am going to cook ribs and pork loin for a work function this Friday. My question is how long is reasonable to hold the ribs before serving. I want to give myself a little pad by getting the ribs done early so the serving time is predictable. I am going to do the cooking then leave...

    lansky knife sharpener

I bought the basic kit and the serrated hone. I haven't spent a ton of time with it yet but it did make very obvious improvements on the knives that I tried it with. Do you have the "super fine" hone? Is it worth it to spend the time with anything more than the "fine" that comes with the kit...

    Smoked Coon

My grandfather started taking me squirrel hunting when I was 5. We would bring them home and clean them and my grandmother would make stew. It was great at the time but it has been years (probably 25) since I had any. I would certainly eat them before I starved. I worked with a guy from...

    Knife Sharpener

Can anyone share their experience with sharpeners like the Lansky or Smith systems that have the stones that fit into the angle guides. Getting the angle right and using the appropriate grit stone seem to be the central issues in getting the best edge. Also, both of the systems that I...

    Forschner Knife manufacture dates

Can anybody tell me how to tell the age of an older Forschner knife? I have a large Cimeter that was my wife's Grandmothers and Step-grandfathers when they owned a smal grocery that had a butcher shop. I believe it would be from the late 50's or early 60's. I can see a stamp on the wood...

    WAGNER Cast Iron

Can anyone vouch for the new stuff? It is common to see comments on the old Wagners and Griswolds but I can't ever remember reading about a new one. Same quality? bd

Why cant i calibrate a thermometer properly?

How about a glass of ice water. Mostly full of ice then add the water. Stir the contents with the probe and adjust 32. Might be a little more consistent temp throughout than the boiling pot. Hope this helps. Bobby

    Induction burner

Guys, I have a restuarant grade induction burner and don't know what I might be able to use it for at home. It was made to heat up small skillets for fajitas and such. I don't know if it would be suitable for anything else or if it will only work in short burst such as heating the small...

Tips on custom kettle/wsm table enclosure

I have looked around a little bit and haven't seen anyone include a high output burner built into the table. I know that you can buy wok burners that would drop in but they are big bucks (for me anyway) It doesn't seem that it would be that hard to do it yourself. I found a 100K btu NG burner...
