Nomex Seal - Should I put it on the door or the WSM?

I have some left over Nomex seal after using it for this idea here: http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?38530-Attaching-the-blower-to-the-WSM-My-idea I have enough to do a door seal as there is a lot of smoke pouring out of mine. The question is, should I put the seal on the door or on the WSM? I...

Curing and smoking bacon for the WSM 18.5 - Help check my sanity :)

So last night I took both bellies out and rinsed, patted them dry, and put them on cookie racks over cookie sheets to dry in the fridge. This afternoon I took them out to smoke. The dry cure one looked fabulous. Great color throughout. Problem is it is about a half inch thick. Next time I need...

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

Okay this test burn went VERY well. I utilized some half burned Kingsford briquettes from two previous smokes - a real one and the test one. With the used charcoal, I put some new ones in and 3 fist sized pieces of wood. I didnt quite fill the whole ring. I got a consistent 13 hour burn at 225...

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

I started a second test burn using the same method Dave mentioned. I took one weber starter cube and lit it in the opposite side. I closed the vent in the fan half way now. It is going well so far

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

Ohh, interesting thought Dave. Is that why you are trying to make a damper? So maybe have the bottom vent closed to the amount of what I would normally have it at without the HeaterMeter? Makes sense. I am going to go kill my current trial smoke and load up another batch and try again.

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

Limiting the max fan is probably a good thing. I will try that next time. Here is my setup. 2 of the 3 vents on the bottom are CLOSED. The third vent, it completely enclosed within the fan attachment I made which has a nomex seal: I think little to no air is getting into the smoker from...

Best Method for using the HeaterMeter on long smokes?

Hello All, I am doing a test burn using my HeaterMeter for the first time. I was trying a different take on the minion method as describe here: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/118905/no-disrespect-to-mr-minion-but-i-dont-start-a-fire-like-that Basically the idea is putting the lit coals on...

I created a HeaterMeter Android App! You can create one too! Pics inside

So, I would LOVE to have a really nice Android HeaterMeter app that was built specifically for Android. I was thinking of maybe doing it in Adobe Air which would make it cross platform compatible for iOS/Android/Mac/Linux/PC. I am not a coder- I am a project manager and have good ties to...

    Post your HM4.0 success here!

Thanks! I am very familiar with dynamic dns. I used to have an account somewhere, but I think I let it lapse. I am just having trouble with port forwarding on this stupid 2wire. I think what I setup was a DMZ, not a port forward so I need to figure that out. I will google and try to find some...

Attaching the blower to the WSM - My idea

So here is my final version. Painted the can with black engine paint and added the nomex gasket to the bottom. Tomorrow I will be doing a few dry runs to test.

    Post your HM4.0 success here!

Bryan, can you expand on this? Let's say I have a static ip for my internal network for the HeaterMeter of 192.168.1.69. What exactly do I need to open up on the router? I went and created a user defined firewall application for the heatermeter 192.168.1.69 specifically that allows traffic on...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Wellll that would do it!! I have a Et-72 probe and that one was working fine so I was very very perplexed. I can see this being an issue and accidentally pushing the probe in all the way. Maybe I can put a bumper on the probe to stop that from happening. All in all, except for the odd wireless...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

Okay this may be silly but....I plugged in a et-732 pit probe. And I cannot figure out a way to turn probe 0 on in the configuration. I consistently get no pit probe on the lcd and in the browser configure, it shows Probe 0/1/2/3 off. I have set them to internal and used the presets for the...

    HOWTO: Configuring LinkMeter WiFi

Hi Bryan, I am having some issues with wifi on this. It is actually very weird. If I just have the wifi plugged in, it will eventually get the IP address 192.168.1.69 as dictated by my router (I have it set to a fixed IP on the router). However, I cannot ping or access the device using that IP...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

12v from the HeaterMeter side. Anyways, I bought a $9.99 keyboard from frys and that worked. I successfully flashed the image and then had to dial the contrast in to see the screen. It is possible that the first flash worked, but I had not adjusted the screen at that point.
