    new one-touch platinum

I would definitely call weber. More than likely they'll send you a new lid under their warranty. Maybe posting some pics here might allow us to offer some help as to fixing the problem.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

Just spoke with the lady I've been dealing with at weber. She was able to find me a handle, so I should have the parts to finish it hopefully this next week. Just for future reference, in case anybody is interested, the parts I ordered were the lid lock support (Part #86921) $3, lid lock wire...

    Smoke on the Water, results.

Will do Mark. Beings this will be my first time checking out a competition, when is the best time to come? I've heard Friday is best so I'll try to go Friday evening. If I can't make that, would it be best to come Saturday morning to observe teams preparing for turn-in and then wait until...

    speaking of wood handles

Looks great George! How did you attach it? Did you use a screw through the back? or maybe some sort of epoxy?

Skewering baby backs - meat side in or out

I've always rolled bones in, no real reason, just how I've done it. As with many things though, I think you'll probably get many differing views. Try it both ways and see which you prefer. Good luck!

    "C" Kettle Wood Handles Restore

I've decided to sell a couple of my kettles since they aren't getting used anymore now that got my performer. I picked this one up a while ago but I'm finally getting around to fixing it up. I gotta say, I'll be sad to see it go. Gotta love the look of the wood handles. Heres some pics:

    Smoke on the Water, results.

Very impressive Mark! Sorry to hear you weren't able to find anybody to give you a hand. I didn't realize from your earlier post that you had no other help for it. Just thought you were throwing out the offer. If I had known that I would have tried to make it. I'm hoping to make it to...

Going Over to the Dark Side!

Last winter I used my Genesis all the time for quick dinners after work but then earlier in the year everything changed. I picked up a performer on craigslist and now I can have charcoal ready just about as fast as the gasser. Now like everybody else it's a storage rack.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

I agree George. From the recent posts about people getting conflicting prices and from what I've dealt with lately it doesn't seem like weber is running normally. I just hope she can find me a handle! That wire and support aren't going to be much help if I don't have the handle. Here's a...

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

I would but the Boss won't allow it. Ordered the wire and the support this morning but they are on back order until wednesday and the lady is looking into a handle for me. Hopefully she can find one.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

I agree George. I plan to call tomorrow and hopefully I can sweet talk the next person I talk to into getting me one without having to get the whole thing. Of course though, now that I've decided to go this route the SJP in Sac you posted about last week is now down to $25.

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

Thanks guys! Chris and Jeremy, great job! Hope mine turns out as nice. I tried calling but they said to get the handle I'd have to buy the whole lid assembly for around $35. I'll try again when I call for the lid lock. Maybe I'll get somebody who's able to get me just the handle...

Lid hold down mod on OTG/OTS

Sorry to bring an old post to the top but I'm planning to do this and was hoping to see if anybody had any advice that would help with the process. I just bought an 18.5 OTS. I plan to cut the legs, install a lid lock wire ($3.50), and I would like to add the lid lock support ($3) also to use...

What do you use for a charcoal tool/rake?

If it's one or two coals I'll use my tongs like previously mentioned. If it's a lot of coals I'll use a fryer skimmer like this one. It has a long enough handle that it keeps your hands away from the coals and it works great for scooping up previously used coal when starting up again in the...

    Pizza on firebricks?

I think I would just cook it on your pizza pan lifted on a couple bricks. It seems like I've seen people on here do it like that with success. I've always used my pizza stone before though so I can't speak from personal experience. I think I got my stone for around $10. Nothing special but...

Spend a day on the comp trail

Would love to join you but I think 2.5 hours is a little to far. Let me know if you're ever doing any of the comps closer to Sac though! Good luck at the comp!

    HELP!

I agree with Jeff. Also, are you using a chimney or lighter fluid. Either way make sure that you allow your coals time to get fully going. And not to put words in Jeff's mouth (or fingers??? ) but when he says open the lid I don't believe he means to cook with it off, just to bring up the...

Having tough time grilling steaks on Performer

Sounds like you've got the right idea to me. I agree with the room temp advice. I'll usually salt, pepper, and garlic powder, let come to room temp, oil, grill direct for a couple minutes each side then move to indirect till they feel right. I know some people like to reverse sear steaks but...

    Grill TriTip Tonight

Hey Jeff, When I do Tri-Tip I prefer to do the reverse sear method also. I usually go with about 1/2 chimney started and 1/2 unlit. But I usually just fill the chimney, start the coals, then when I can see the amount of coals are lit that I want I'll dump it in and let it go from there. Then...
