    Best Smoking Books

Hi Van, I don't have that one but others here have commented about it positively. Honestly though, pretty much everything I know about smoking on a WSM or Kettle is as a result of researching member posts here at TVWBB, and asking lots of questions too. Not that you shouldn't check out other...

    Noob questions after recent build

Hi Neal, and welcome to the forum. "1. How do others control the temperatures in their Mini WSMs?" I have an sjs, I use both the bottom vent and the top vent to control the temps. I marked on my ash pan with a sharpie several lines where I have the best success with temp control using the bottom...

    K.I.S.S. method

Not to throw water on Gary's K.I.S.S. method (it is a good method), but I think the Minion method is much easier and straight forward. I've used it for the last five years and have no problems with it. I also use Kingsford briquettes more often than not. I have used lump, but I like the...

    Magnum Mini-WSM

I would almost think a solid drum that fits the sjs would be the best way to go...less parts to deal with and all that. On the other hand, can you find a drum/pot like that? Does a 15 gal fit the sjs? Just curious, did you have to order your sjs from the US or Australia? Just wondering if you...

    Magnum Mini-WSM

Looks interesting. As was mentioned in the thread, the stability of th pots is a concern. Where the pot meets the bowl is a snug fit, but not completely tight. You would probably need to find a way to make the base pot more secure, same with the second pot to the first pot. I don't think heat...

    ? about tamale pots...

Yep, makes sense. Didn't know you were using CI grates, how have those worked out for you?

    ? about tamale pots...

I think that would be a safe assumption. A 16th probably won't make much of a difference ;) Are you going to do three levels of grates or two?

    ? about tamale pots...

From the bottom: the groove starts at 2~3/16", and ends at 3~1/16"

    Ash build up

I've used a large 16oz can to scoop out ashes, wearing leather gloves while doing it, works pretty well. I also have a large metal bucket I use for ash, so I'll remove the grate and empty the bowl into the bucket. That works even better.

    Performer gas ignition

Is that the small white tank that goes with your performer? I had to special order that since Weber no longer carried it. It turns out that few will refill it either, too many people apparently didn't get the connection tight enough and a fire resulted. I think that's why they went with the...

    Ohayo from Japan!

Welcome to the forum Daniel. I'm curious about what you smoke over there, is there a difference in quality and style of cut regarding beef and pork? I know about Kobe beef, have you tried that?

    Throwdown #8: Ground Stuff

So I would submit only one entry per throw down?

Experimenting with Spices and Heat Induced Color Changes

I'm really surprised by the white sugar changes, so much for my assumptions about sugar being the culprit in burning and adding darker colors. I'll be very curious about the garlic salt.

    My new MINI WSM

Thats a great looking mini! I did a pork butt and ABTs on mine yesterday, but smoked meatloaf is the family favorite so far... so I recommend the meatloaf. What ever you choose, you're going to love how easy it is to use the mini, have fun with it!

    Rusty Jumbo Joe SJP

Very nice find Robb! I've been seeing quite a few SJS's on CL lately, and even a jumbo like yours a couple of weeks ago. I also like how you enlisted some help in the cleaning process, I'll have to try that with mine ;) at eight years old I think he's ready

    Replacement cover for 18.5" WSM?

A lot of us have found the WSM cover too tight to get on easily, very annoying. I, and quite a few others have used a 22" kettle cover instead, I think it works better. Others have tried heavy duty trash bags, that also works well, but looks rather odd IMHO.

    NWD(New Weber Day)....

That's a sharp looking SJG. You should accessorize with a bottomless tamale pot steamer.
