ET-73 vs NU-701 Method of Transmission?

I know, that's what i'm trying to sort out. I can carry my ET-73 all over the place as well. We have some kind of issue where this fellow is having intractable problems.

ET-73 vs NU-701 Method of Transmission?

I only wish they were using similar technology. They aren't. Different frequencies, different transmit power. If I were king of the world, things would be different. BTW, I switched to different frequencies on my portable phone because there were HUGE interference issues with wireless remote...

    ET-73 and battery life

Still hanging in there. Temps are consistent from transmitter to receiver. It's an oblique angle through stucco and UV tinted double glazed windows. I'm as curious as anyone as to how long these batteries will last.

stepping outside my comfort zone and smoking a salmon

I agree. It would take a whole bunch of alcohol before I would go for a "rum and salmon juice cocktail". I make a really great margarita, though (no salmon for ingredients).

ET-73 vs NU-701 Method of Transmission?

How far does it maintain connectivity in a straight line without any walls or stuff? Is there some way that you can eliminate building materials? I started a thread and I'm into day three with no issues. The batteries are holding up and the temp readings from the transmitter to the receiver are...

Careful Bruce, He may invite you to manage the WSM.

    Leaky WSM-Weber Support

Hey Mords, In the meantime consider getting a section of cotton T-Shirt, wet it down, and form a gasket. I remember reading about doing that somewhere in these forums and it makes sense to me. Cotton doesn't start burning until 500-600 degrees or so. Should help seal it up until you get the...

Does altitude change the cooking time?

Dave, My experience with pork butts showed no meaningful difference in time, but then again I am largely rendering fat and connective tissue. Could it be that with chicken (less fat, more water?), the 10* lower boiling point for water helped keep the meat temperature from getting up to your...

ET-73 vs NU-701 Method of Transmission?

You're doomed. From what you've been through there must be something else going on, but I have no idea what that would be. Maverick has certainly been gracious with four seperate units. Now I'm starting to think about interference. Do you have anything like a "baby monitor" or other remote...

    Foiled again!

Andy, There are a bunch of ways to do this. 1. Line the bowl with foil and fill with water. Cleanup is easier. 2. No foil and fill with water. Clean it up or don't. Your temperament and tolerance will be your guide. 3. Fill with sand and cover with foil. Easy cleanup, no water fill...

    ET-73 and battery life

It's 11:20pm PST and the batteries are holding up just fine. I wish the weather here could be as stable as the WSM it drops to ~60F at night and over 100F during the day. I guess that means the ET-73 gets frequent updates.

    Beijing Roast Duck

Beijing Roast Duck A few side notes not included in the recipe: Beijing Duck is specially raised. sort of Like Kobe beef, or french duck for fouigrax. Here in the US, it might be tough to find and you will just deal with what you can find. The red color I look for could be food coloring, or an...

    Good crunchy fried okra, anyone?

Fried is the only way I have ever been able to tolerate okra. I don't even add okra (I know it's sacrilege) to gumbo. You recipe sure sounds good though. I'd never heard of soaking it in milk to reduce the "slime". I'll have to give it a try again.

ET-73 vs NU-701 Method of Transmission?

From what I can gather they both transmit at 433Mhz and they both are rated for about the same coverage area. I'd say that Bill pretty much said it all. You likely just stepped into a bad batch. Since Maverick Industries is only an hour drive from you (Edison, NJ), maybe you could take a drive...

First timer with minion method and mr. brown

Don't worry if the visible smoke dies down. Don't keep stoking it. It is there and doing its magic. Temp control is the most important thing.

    ET-73 and battery life

ET-73 Battery Life Test. OK, I'm going to run a little experiment. It is now 8:15pmPST on Aug 6, and I'm going to hang my transmitter outside (in a shaded/protected area) with my receiver inside the house on top of my refrigerator. The original little green cheap batteries, are installed so it...

    24 Hour Smoke?

Last weekend I did a Marathon Smoke. I was not using water in the pan so I could, at one point, dissassemble and remove the ash after 20 hours or so in preparation for the next round. A pair of welding gloves will protect your hands, and a galvanized steel garbage pail (1/2 size?) would be handy...

    Chimichurri Sauce

I sometimes use turmeric in place of saffron if all I'm looking for is the color. I don't think the flavor would punch through the rest of these ingredients.

    Chicken Legs Cooking Time

For my money, I would just grill them. You can add some smoke wood to the fire to contribute to the flavor, but low and slow wouldn't be my choice of techniques. It's tough enough to smoke a whole chicken. I suppose you could put them in the smoker at 300-350 for about a little bit to impart...
