18.5 vs. 22.5 I know its an old question but

I have no clue either. But, when doing 4 pork butts a couple weeks ago....I dumped in ~20# of charcoal to start....and probably another 3-4# after the 12hr mark. It seemed like a lot, as it was $10+ in charcoal alone. (At least now I loaded up on kingsford at HD during the Spring Sale.) The...

18.5 vs. 22.5 I know its an old question but

Everyone has a different opinion on this subject.... I would recommend the 18. (since you don't cook for large crowds) I owned a 22 for a few years. I just bought a 14 this week. For me the 22 is somewhat of an event to get everything prepped/ready, and then cleaned up afterwards. Plus...

    1200 w/Stand for $120!?

Thanks all! I'll wait on the grill......until I can upgrade to a real "gasser".

    1200 w/Stand for $120!?

hmm....I did plan on using it as my "main gas grill", as my current $99 cheapy charbroil is getting pretty ugly. I was gonna buy the hose to hook it up to a 20# propane tank. I'm guessing the Q1200 would an upgrade from my existing crappy gas grill!? I really want a Weber Spirit 210 grill...

You guys are making me want to purchase the 14.5 now....hmm....

    2nd WSM - 18.5" or 14"?

I also have a 22 and I keep seeing a 14 on clearance at my local Walmart....I keep drooling while looking at it but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I could buy a lot of charcoal to use in the 22 for $155, which is the sale price on the 14. I think the 14 would be ideal for small cooks or...

    Test Run?

I'm doing a 'test run' this weekend too. Bought a 14# Butterball last weekend, that is thawing in the fridge. I'm NOT brining, and i'll just do a standard rub on outside, and likely inject w/something(butter?). Goal is 325temp for as long as it takes. Fingers crossed, as it's my first bird...

Freezing pork butt to use this weekend...

Thanks for bringing this up. I've been freezing my pork "differently" then mentioned above. I'll try cooling it down quicker next time. Normally, I'll thaw it in the fridge for a day or two in the foodsaver bag. Then throw it into the crock pot w/some bbq sauce, as it seemed to be a tad dry...

Cleaning the 22.5" Grates!? Any Tips?

I don't think my wife has enough muscles to scrub hard enough to get looking like new. ;)

Cleaning the 22.5" Grates!? Any Tips?

Thanks for the help everyone! Looks like the Water Heater Pan is the way to go, along with some spray degreaser. I'll be sure to buy these prior to my next cook.

Cleaning the 22.5" Grates!? Any Tips?

..that must be one HUGE gas grill. No way would my grates fit in my small one.

Cleaning the 22.5" Grates!? Any Tips?

I'm finding the most daunting task of smoking some bbq goodness must be the final cleanup, after everything has been cooked. My 22.5" grates are too large to fit into my kitchen sink(or better yet, dishwasher). Does anyone have any tips on making the cleaning of the stuck-on tidbits any...

    Target clearance

Dang it Dustin....I wanted smokey Joe but they weren't on clearance!? Only the jumbo Joe was on sale.

    Target clearance

Your Target deals are better than mine here! I finally bought a 22" silver grill today for 69.99 on clearance. It was the last one they had. And I got the grill cover for $6. Now to figure out how to grill with charcoal instead of propane....

    Walmart Meat

Yes it's choice. I look on occasion when I go and normally it's unmarked packaging which I assume is 'select' and not 'choice'. This is the first time I've seen choice there. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow for one and do an overnight smoke?

    Walmart Meat

I was surprised to see my local Walmart now has choice brisket!? $3.48lb seems pretty cheap compared to the $5.29 I've paid elsewhere.

Neighbor knocked over the WSM - warped it....what can I do?

Just bend it back. I bought my 22.5" WSM last year, from Cabela's, as a damaged floor model. Looks like it was assembled, and then dropped from a shelf 4 ft up. I bent it back, and touched it up with some high-heat black paint. Good as new again.
