All-day smoke of an 8lb pork shoulder on a wsm mini build. This is what happened.

5:30am I filled the bottom of my wsm mini with a full load of charcoal, lighting up only a chimney full, and leaving the rest unlit. My shallow pie pan was filled with water at the bottom of my pot. But just as I set the pot on to the charcoal, the light pie pan tips and spills the water over...

My Take on the Mini WSM

Great looking WSM build! I like the sturdy lock of the cake pan. I've used a cake pan on mine, but after 3 uses, my cake pan is already rusting on the inside. Or at least it looks like rust, and now I'm apprehensive about using it again to smoke my food. I wonder how your cake pan is holding...

Are my Porcelain CI grates supposed to rust after a year?

You actually have a pretty clean looking grate. But maybe too clean! I like to clean mine after each use with a regular scrub brush, but only just enough to get most of the burned food off. I don't want to risk scraping off the outer porcelain enamel, or any other coating if it's cast iron...

    NIB 1977/78 Chocolate Kettle

That's beautiful. Weber should buy that back and keep it in a museum.

    rebuilt webers..

Great job! Someday I'd like to do the same, if I can find some Performers around here. I've been checking and they still go for at least $100.

    Kalbi beef ribs.

That pickled garnish is a nice touch. I'm going to do that next time! (In addition to my kim chee...)

    New Q model numbers and......

I noticed that they removed the tool hooks from the side tables. And where are the 3 tool hooks that they purport to include in the Q3200? On the back of the cart? If so, that would be an odd location for tools. I love my Q200 with the older cart. Hooks on the front of the cart, and two on...

Visual Comparison Between the 14.5 WSM and the Mini-Joe Smokers

Ah, you beat me to it! Here's what I just saw at my local OSH: Even as a Smokey Joe owner, I was quite surprised at how small the 14.5 WSM is, especially in comparison with the others. Honestly, I think our mini-smokey joe builds have more usable space than the 14.5 WSM. The only benefit...

    2014 Weber Crimson Color

Sometimes, I just like to drive over to my local OSH or other hardware store, and just hang around in the grill section. Just kickin' the tires, you know...

    The inner workings

Thanks, Chris for your labor of love for this website. It has altered the course of my days and nights ever since I stumbled upon it in the past month. Since then, I've made a wsm mini build, bought two more Weber grills (Q200 on CL for $50, a 22.5 silver on CL for $30), made my first beer can...

Where do you buy your wood?

Jim, Torrance is a large, lovely suburb in Southern California. For all these years, I've only used mesquite chips. Just love the smell of it. I don't want to drop $8 just to try out a new "flavor" of wood, since I enjoy mesquite so much. I wish they sold a sampler pack!

Where do you buy your wood?

Ha ha, if I had a 200 acre ranch I'd get all my wood AND meat from there! Thanks for the tips, everyone! I'm going to check out that Torrance store as I didn't even know there was a firewood place right near where I live. I was so close to clicking "Buy Now" for a big plastic bag of, um, wood...

Where do you buy your wood?

I'm looking to stock up on wood chunks for my smoking. I've noticed the 5lb bags run around 6-8 bucks. Aside from chopping down my own trees, is there a discount place that we can go for cheap wood for smoking? Or do most of you just buy the bags from Home Depot/Amazon, etc.

First time WSM owner in NY

Stan, I made my first Weber beer can chicken ever, and I have to agree with you: it's the best!

Smoker fried chicken thighs ...successful experiment.

Looks excellent. How did you do this? Deep fried in a vat of oil? Or just oiled chicken on a grill?

Beer can chicken on a WSM mini build

Thanks! BTW, I also added a couple racks of baby back ribs on the top while cooking.

Beer can chicken on a WSM mini build

6lb chicken, oil, spices, and half a can of beer. One and a half chimneys of charcoal (a fresh, Trader Joe's brand) on a WSM mini build: Cooked for 2.5 hours, but I think I could have taken it out at the 2 1/4 hour mark: The white meat at the top had the texture of soft crab meat! My wife...

My EZ WSM Poor Man's Benz Build

Here's my first smoke on my wsm mini build. Can you believe that this small amount of charcoal lasted over 4 hours?: It was an old, leftover Kingsford blue bag I bought a few years ago, and it's been left out on a balcony in the rain. Imagine what a new bag would do! Pork shoulder, lathered...

    Trader Joe's Charcoal

The TJs charcoal shipment just showed up in the pallets at my local store. I had to ask a store rep to bring out a bag for me. As always, they were very friendly and helpful. I just tried it out, and it sure does smell different from the Kingsford Blue bag, and the briquettes were a bit...

    PHOTOS: 2014 Weber Charcoal Grills

Jak, Why do you have so many grills? What line of work do you need to do to justify getting 4 brand new ones? I want what you got.
