Go-Anywhere Gas Grill with Marlboro wooden handles

Picked this up on Facebook Marketplace for $10! I’ve never seen a Marlboro Weber grill, didn’t know they were made. I really wasn’t looking for a grill but I figured for $10 it has 3 wood handles in good condition. I’m contemplating sanding off the Marlboro emblems.

    Two butts & Kingford Competition

I would put the probe in the smaller of the two, it will probably be the first to finish and you don’t want one to over cook. When they get close to being done you can temp the other butt with an instant read just to see the difference. You can always swap the probe to the other butt if it’s...

2nd cook on my 14” WSM: mini pork butt

Finished product Took it off at 197°. Turned out pretty good, with good smoke flavor (apple wood). It was tender, but not as juicy as I would have liked - not dry either, but no real juices after I pulled it. Maybe because of its size there was less interior area to hold juices? Not sure, it’s...

2nd cook on my 14” WSM: mini pork butt

My supermarket had a special on some mini pork butts (approx 2# each). I’ve never done one before so I figured it would be a cheap experiment. I’m 6 hours in and the internal temp is 160°, so I think I’m finally moving past the stall - it was stuck at 150° for almost 2 hours. It’s pretty...

    Thermometer probe location.

I use the grommet hole for my probes, seems like a good place for a temperature reading.

    Cracking your pizza stone

Regular ceramic stones are good for ovens, but they can’t handle the high heat from a grill. Look for a cordierite pizza stone for grilling and try to keep the charcoal around the edges and not directly under the stone.

Adding ash catcher to my grill

I added an ash catcher to my Silver Kettle and it went on perfectly. The grill and ash catcher are probably 10 years old, but they probably have not changed the design. The aluminum tab fits into a slot on where the leg attaches to the kettle. Very easy to put on. Here is a picture of how it...

What was your first smoker ?

Started smoking on my Weber kettle, but my first “real” smoker was an ECB that my neighbor used once and threw out. I did some mods, but after a while went back to the kettle. Just got a 14.5” WSM this winter.

Weber plastic grill handle 7478 with tool holders on clearance at my local Lowes

I picked up a couple yesterday for $4 each. They are still $8.99 online, but if you’re in need of handles it might be worth a call to your local Lowes store to see if they are clearing them out.

    Got my first WSM!

First cook and I'm a believer! Did my first cook on my 14.5" WSM on Sunday. I read a lot of articles on this site about set up, but because it was the first time using it, I used Weber's set up recommendations (35 briquettes, all vents fully opened to start, water pan full) except I used a...

Ambient probe vs food probe for monitoring cooker temps

The ambient temperature probe i was referring to is for measuring grate temperature. Some dual/multi probe thermometers come with a dedicated grate (“ambient”) temperature probe.

Ambient probe vs food probe for monitoring cooker temps

Sounds like there is little difference in the sensors, and maybe most newer units come with dual use probes. One of the reasons I asked is I’m considering buying a dual or multi-probe unit and think it might be better to have the probes able to do either instead of a dedicated ambient...

Ambient probe vs food probe for monitoring cooker temps

I’ve never had an ambient temperature probe, and have just been using 2 separate food probes to monitor the cooker temp and the meat temp. Is there enough differences in the accuracy of the ambient vs food probe to warrant purchasing a dedicated ambient probe? I’ve compared my 2 food probes side...

Embers charcoal $1.90/bag on clearance at Home Depot

I haven’t used any yet, did you have any issues with it? How does it compare with Kingsford? Is it worth buying a few more bags?
