    Stokerlog question

OK, once I got home and tried again it worked. Undoubtedly user error so I will chalk it up to working too much. Thanks for the help. Once I got the cook going it went well until sometime in the middle of the night it spiked 2 times. They were quick spikes up to 266. is that a common one...

    Stokerlog question

OK, this may be a dumb question: does the stoker log require access to the internet? Here is why I ask. I do not have a wireless bridge. In order to atleast be able to monitor from inside, I set up an old router(Dlink that can't be flashed with new firmware) and plugged the stoker into it...

Oak wood for pork butt and brisket??

I like oak as well. My favorite oak is the old Jack Daniels Barrels that have been cut into chips -excellent. I find pecan to be a good "inbetween" of oak and hickory. Also, Thomas, just moved from Richmond. Good to know on buz. You are right they are the best in Richmond (but they don't...

Prospects of finding a used ATC?

I have been slapping around the idea of getting an ATC. It seems that it would remove some of my anxiety during the cook ( i am always checking temps and wondering if they are correct etc). Also, truth be told I love gadgets and toys. The thought of controlling the temp from a computer is...

    lodge grill pan

FWIW, when I used a Foreman, I found that the best way to clean it was to use the leftover heat to my advantage. I would fold up 3 or 4 wet paper towels and set them on the grill once my food came off. Close the lid and it steams the gunk right off. I use this method to clean the electric...

    electric knife

I have the cuisinart (I think it was $40). I love it. Its great for carving turkey and has a bread knife too which makes short work of french bread. Alton Brown uses one so I figure its OK

Tony, good stuff as always. About the CG, how does that hold temps compared to the WSM? Does it require much tending?

WSM article in Raleigh, N.C. paper

Great article! Its funny, my parents live in Durham and get the N&O. We all went to the lake house this past weekend and I brought the WSM so I could make ribs for the fam. When I got there my mom told me I had to read the article she brought me about smoking. I wasn't expecting much from the...

    wireless thermometer

As my dad would say "the price is right". Worst case scenario is that it sucks and you are out...well nothing. I will say though I bought a wireless probe thermo on special that was made by Oregon scientific and it quit after 2 uses. Maybe that was why it was on special. However, I use a...

    Transporting WSM?

thanks and yes the hitch haul is basically a shelf that goes into the hitch receiver. I like your idea and will prob end up doing that since time is kind of limited these days. I would however like to make something at some point so that taking the smoker with me places is easier.

    Transporting WSM?

Has anyone found a good way to transport their WSM? I am going to my family's lake house for the 4th and really want to take my WSM so I can smoke some stuff for the family. I was thinking of trying to craft something that would protect and hold the smoker together if I put it on its side on a...
