    Knives to trim fat

I have this knife as well and it is fantastic at carving fat off a brisket. It is also great for cutting up chicken, both before and after cooking.

Think I just scored a good deal

Recent reviews on the classics covers are less than favorable.

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

This is the worst panel on the whole grill, the bottom one. All of the rot was in the rear right corner (facing the grill). Before I took the sander to it, I called Weber and discovered it was $108 to replace. I think I might just hold off on that expense. The missing metal is on the back side...

    Weber Summit S-420 Crumbling

That is terrible to hear. What year is the grill?

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

Here at Earl Scheib, we'll paint any grill for $99.95! I had planned to do the firebox sides as well, but decided they needed some more sanding before painting. I did the hood sides with semi-gloss black hi-temp paint. The rusted parts of the side panel that I sanded yesterday got hit with...

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

What are the thoughts about the hi temp BBQ paint in the firebox? The front of the box where the grates sit has some corrosion that I would like to cover with paint.

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

Got the firebox and lid apart today. Lots of cleaning still to do. Probably won't get to painting until Saturday and assembly until Monday since we are getting some storms on Sunday. Did some polishing on the stainless in the meantime... Didn't get a chance to get my after shot, but it...

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

How far do you disassemble the hood to paint it? Should I take the sides off or simply mask off the stainless and paint all together?

New from NorCal with a recent free gas grill in need of restoration

I was going to replace the hardware on my Summit project with SS and remember seeing that list before. Thanks for the refresher!

Genesis II 3-410 buy now or hold off?

They don't really go on sale as Weber tends to lock the price down. They had $100 off last fell, but that was probably due to the fact the Genesis II was coming out.

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

Day one is finished. Main disassembly and inspection. The floorpan is worse than I thought and I'll probably call Weber to quote a replacement. I did break one bolt off in the bottom panel where the rust was particularly bad. The firebox and hood will be the next to be disassembled for painting...

    Weber S-670 with no warranty

That sounds like a reasonable guess. I just wonder what happens when the OP or even a future owner calls Weber to register the grill. That is a long warranty on Summits and something may well need to be replaced in the future while still in that warranty period.

    Smoke A Rib Roast?

I combine a few different techniques when doing my rib roasts. I like to cut along the bones, but leave them attached like a hinge at one end. I then poke holes to insert the garlic cloves. I season the meat under this flap and slay in a few sprigs of fresh rosemary before closing up the flap. I...

    I thought I scored a deal on a Weber Gold Summit D6

All the parts are in and the restoration and conversion should start this week. With my Genesis Platinum done and out of the garage, I have a little more room to work on this. I am painting the firebox and lid, so there will be disassembly. The side panels has some rust and paint flaking, so...

New decade old Summit vs. New Genesis/Genesis II

And the grill is done. As purchased: After the minor rehab It got up to 500 degrees in about 6 minutes and 600 degrees a bit later. I could have spent some more time sanding and grinding to smooth out the rust and old paint, but I was looking to do this quick. I used Rustoleum...

How much is the old grill worth? Genesis Silver or Gold

There is a 2004 Genesis Gold in decent looking (and functioning apparently) condition listed locally for $100. I see a lot of new Spirits and a few previous generation Genesis models on there quite often. The Genesis Silver/Gold/Platinum are a bit more hit and miss. I don't know if the average...

    Summit -670 Manifold Hose placement

Here is a link to a manual for an S-670 LP that might help. Don't know if the link will actually work. http://db2531ea725cb218ebf0-257519685d8ef76e8b565d778c28bf2e.r94.cf2.rackcdn.com/Literature_Kit_56202(56204_022811-10750).pdf

New decade old Summit vs. New Genesis/Genesis II

Set up the high end paint booth in the garage this morning and got a coat of Rustoleum Graphite Gray on the inside part of two panels. I used a bonding primer to help bond to the original porcelain coating. The paint is darker than stock, but the closest I could get. Once this stuff is dry, I...
