Cedar Planks are back at Costco

I went to my local Costco and they didn't have the cedar planks. Oh well. Bill

Cedar Planks are back at Costco

I think 8 for $9.99 is a much better price than 10 for $29.99. Bill

Anyone been watching BBQ with Franklin on PBS?

Chris, I didn't know about this show until I saw the link. When I went to the page, I saw a picture of two men. One of the star of the show, the other, was John Markus, my former boss on The Cosby Show. Neither of us were into barbecue back then, but both of us are heavily into it now. How...

    Brisket cook time

Brian, Where in SoCal are you? I'm in Sherman Oaks. I usually get my full packer briskets at Restaurant Depot. You need to be a member to shop there, but I'd be happy to take you some time if you're in the area. I bought a 12 pounder and two pork butts for the fourth -- I'm having 40...

Chris, Do you have a sous vide beef short rib recipe? Bill

    $100 Sous Vide

Add me to the club of people who don't need this but ordered it anyway. It should be here in two days. Bill

    Where can I buy a 26.75 OTG????

Keep an eye out for one on Craigslist. I got one that was about a year old for $125. These things are like tanks. No need to buy it new. Bill

    Used Weber Performers

I think Bob H. makes a good point. But don't spend more than $20 for a Craigslist OTG. Okay, I admit it, maybe I'm a little cheap. Bill

    La Caja China

Bob, I'm not sure that a whole pig is the best or most cost effective way to go, but I really want to do one. I appreciate your offer and wish you lived closer as well. Bill

    Used Weber Performers

Wait for a $50 one to pop up on Craigslist. If you're patient, you'll get a great deal. Bill

    La Caja China

I've begun looking for whole pigs to cook and discovered that there's a pig shortage. I may have to wait for prices to come back down before I cook a whole pig. Bill

    La Caja China

Peter, I see that the pig roast you went to had the all metal La Caja China. Those are pricey, but the pig looks awesome. Bill

    Kingsford competition charcoal

That charcoal will probably last a lifetime. I always buy a bunch when there's a very good sale or clearance. Usually, more is coming in than is being used. However, I just got a La Caja China and that thing uses A LOT of charcoal, so it may eat into my supply. Bill

    Kingsford competition charcoal

I think KComp is way over priced. For most of my needs Blue Bag Kingsford works just fine. As evidenced below, I'm quite happy with KBB. Bill By the way, Tony, I grew up on Long Island. Where did you live?

    La Caja China

I've read about a couple of methods to get smoke flavor but I have plenty of smokers. This is a different kind of cooker so my plan is to use it without smoke for now. Bill

    La Caja China

Darrel, There's a piece of metal on each playwood wall (as well as the top and bottom) which, I assume reflects the heat around the box and protects the wood. I don't think there's any other insulation built into it. I don't know how hot it gets inside, but it did cook the pork shoulder in 4...

Are there any other Caja China owners here? Bill

    La Caja China

I will indeed need some help with it since my wife has already told me she won't be involved. She's not a big fan of foods that look the same cooked as they did when they were alive. Bill

    La Caja China

I know that this isn't really grilling, but because there's no smoke it's not barbecuing either. I didn't know where to post this, so I made the random choice that this page would do. On Father's Day, I picked up a used La Caja China from Craigslist. I've wanted one for a while, but I'm not...
