Tom Horsman - Using just wood in a gravity feed makes home made charcoal

Oh yeah, I have the 560 and I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to the 1050. I'm watching for some good off season sales but best I've found so far is Academy has it for $750. Here's what I've done about the hopper leaks and it works great...

Tom Horsman - Using just wood in a gravity feed makes home made charcoal

He had way too much white smoldering smoke. I saw that vid last week, and I see now it has 34,000 views. Its making Tom some money. I quit Tom early last year after I'd bought my Masterbuilt GF. The lid on top of the hopper leaked badly. Tom had put a tadpole gasket on his and I followed...

Tom Horsman - Using just wood in a gravity feed makes home made charcoal

I wasn't . I layer charcoal/chunk/charcoal/chunk ............ and the chunks at the very top will look just like that, while the charcoal around them has not ignited. Wood ignites a lower temp than charcoal. He must have some strange taste buds, because I can't imagine those ribs tasted "...

    Problem with my Thermopen Classic

I heard from Themoworks again today. They reviewed my case and are sending me the " repaired " Thermopen with no charge. I would've agreed to pay return postage. I'm very happy with the service.

New Gateway Joins The WSM Team!

Before the pandemic, summer of 2019, I went to a KCBS event here in OKC just to look at everyone's set up. Other than Jambos, drum smokers were the most common, followed by Yoder pellet poopers. Do you hang ribs directly over the coals in that drum ? Or do you use a grate ?

Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

He's cashing in, got the YT channel fully monetized. Getting all the revenue streams he can find. And I don't blame him, not one iota. If I'd grown a YT channel to 500,000 subs than I'd be doing the same thing. Mainly, cause I wonder about the sustainability of being a social media...

Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

I enjoy Matt Pittman, Meat Church owner, videos. And I also like Kosmos Q's YT channel. Both are in the seasoning business and that is known, right up front. They don't attempt to hide it. So I watch their vids with that in mind. But Mad Scientist Yoder has tried to be the Consumer...

New Gateway Joins The WSM Team!

It appears to me that it will have more air flow than a WSM. Those two intakes might be larger than the daisy wheels on a WSM.

    Problem with my Thermopen Classic

I could not get the cover to the battery compartment open on my Thermopen Classic. I tried a coin. I then got a big screwdriver and it would not budge, so much so that I tore up the cover with the screwdriver. I contacted Thermoworks asking them how the hell to get the cover off. They...

    Smoking with Wood (No Charcoal)

If ya want to smoke meats with wood you've got the wrong tool. Its like changing a tire with a crescent wrench. If ya have to go that route, use a burn barrel to create wood coals that can be shoveled into the WSM. But the better course is buy an Old Country Pecos offset smoker. It...

Not me, doesn't have enough air flow, same as a ceramic cooker.

Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

Well, I had an Old Country Brazos which is what he called cheap at a $1,000. Bought it used for $600. It had been fired up three times and still had the marks from showroom stickers on it. Even at that price for 1/4" steel, I battled with it for 3 years. I had to tinker with it and made...
