    Baby Back Prep

I'm looking at Pork Rib Selection on the site here at the picture of how the ribs are supposed to be cut. If that upper cut was too close could that be part of the back bone?

    Baby Back Prep

I've done maybe a dozen slabs of BB. My prep has involved removing the membrane and trimming any unwanted stuff, fat. etc., and dusting with a rub. So far, so good. One thing I have noticed while eating is additional bone material between the rib bones on one side of the slab. I don't like...

How do you clean your grills?

Up to now I've been stacking the dirty grates grates in a plastic trash bag which is tied closed, grates covered with water with two shots of ERA laundry soap added. Let them sit overnight. Next day spray them off and it cleans pretty much everything except the carbon down to the chrome, at...

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

I bought the cheapest I could find with a self-adhesive backing on eBay ($14 free ship). The one I bought was for a Big Green Egg mini. Cut it in half lengthwise it looks to be enough for probably four WSM minis. Maybe it wasn't needed but it does seat the center section more securely. So...

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

I'm noticing a lack the ability to control the fire when both vents (gold) are fully closed so I'm going to try a nomex gasket on the bottom curve of the pot. I had considered just cutting the bottom of the pot off and just going straight in to the SJ bottom section but I think I'll try this first.

What are we using, 1/4-20 for those grill mount screws? 1/4-28?

S J. Gold Mini WSM Smoker

Walmart is showing stock on the 32qt IMUSA pot. I'm hoping its the China import (ordered). Edit: It is the China import and does fit, though I had hoped it would be a bit tighter.

    New project - Megamometer

The equation in your code snippet is for a configuration that has the thermistor between the ADC reference voltage and the ADC input and with a fixed R to ground. For your configuration, thermistor grounded the equation should be something like: Rt = Cadc * Rseries / (Cmax - Cadc) where <UL...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

I have no problem with the PWM approach to the blower speed. Varying the full torque duty cycle is a proven way of getting good speed control. I'm using Hruska's spec'd blower and the PWM is very smooth and controllable though the PWM is running at a 30 Hz rate, not 25 kHz or even 500 Hz. I...

LinkMeter v2 Homebrew BBQ Controller - Part 1

The only thing I'm not enamored with about the controllers based on the Bob Hruska design is the blower drive circuit. I've been fiddling with a cheap-but-good DIY ATC and I used this circuit using the IRL510 and so forth. It works okay but both blower connections are above ground. I use...

First Butt cook or first Butt/Brisket cook?

The cooked worked out great. It was not without a harrowing moment or two but it worked out okay in the end. I followed the Renowned Mr. Brown recipe. I put the meat on Fri night at 10pm, switch my DIY cheap-but-good ATC into auto at 10:45, pit temp 225F. Went to bed. I got a low temp at...

First Butt cook or first Butt/Brisket cook?

Starting the cook Fri night. I could do the two port butts, one on the upper, one the lower. Or I could do a butt/brisket cook. Will this work out? Heck. I guess I could even do two pork butts and a brisket. This is an 18 WSM. If I do the butt/brisket, which should go on which grate? TIA...
