Greetings from the frozen north country!!!

Welcome from a fellow newbie to these boards. Perhaps you could give us all some Garage Sale hints! A WSM for $20??? That's obscene and totally unfair.

    Acronyms, abreviations and shortcuts

I just started reading the messages here a few days ago in preparation for my first smoke (WSM 18.5"). I've notice a LOT of shortcuts and abbreviations being used. I figured out "WSM" pretty quick (duh!), but is there a posting or listing somewhere that provides us newbies with a translation for...

First-timer WSM 18.5", First Smoke, temperature control problems

Greg, thank for the reply. I just filled the pan with hot tap water from kitchen sink. Should I have used hotter water? I have read where others go waterless using sand or a clay pot base or just foil-wrap the pan. How does this affect the end-product? Is it less moist?

First-timer WSM 18.5", First Smoke, temperature control problems

After telling myself for the last 10 years that I wanted to learn how to smoke meats, I FINALLY caved and bought a smoker. I spent (probably) way too much time researching and concluded that the WSM 18.5" is the right choice for me. I bought it from a big box store for $299 and had a $50 gift...
