    Parts source

I gota tell ya...started this hobby about 10 years ago I think. Parts for early Gennys were fairly easy to come by. Last one I did was about 4 years ago that needed a number of parts but they were plentiful. Wow doing this skyline now and they seem to be scarcer and a bit more costly. Many of...

    Painted hood

Well....not sure what I’ve got here...but. So I get out to the shop this afternoon for a closer look at the ‘paint’. I dunno but it seems to scrape off with a bit of elbow grease like the carbon inside the hood using a razor scraper. Hard to imagine that close to the entire outside of the hood...

    Quick question on Drip Trays

Bruce, cant comment on the fit, but I had a drip tray with some large holes in it on one unit. I used some JB Weld. I just backed up the holes with some wax covered cardboard, and spread some on, then took off the card board when it dried. Its been holding up for 4 years now and shows no signs...

    Painted hood

Thanks Bruce, Ive been challenged uploading pics to this forum. I used to use photo bucket before they went belly up. The last restore was 2 years ago and cant remember which photo server I used. This is the only forum that wont let me upload directly. I plan to photo document the whole restore...

    Painted hood

Jon that’s great, can you tell me which stripper you used, or is that in violation of the forum rules. I see citristrip at HomeD but I’ve never used it so not sure which one to try

    Painted hood

So I saw this Skyline on CL not too far from my place. Lady wanted $100. Fairly steep but Ive been looking for something for my Daughter in Law for a while. This looked like it had potential so I thought I’d at least take a look at it. Looked it over and it had the usual issues. Drip pan rails...

    Grill Light

Bruce, I don't see why not....it sits away from the grill a bit after its attached. My 1000 handle is wooden and stays cool. I don't think heat would be an issue for this lamp. Had my reservations when I ordered but it seems like just what I was looking for

    Grill Light

On your recommendation Greg I got that light for my 1000. Seems well made and plenty bright. I’ll have to get used to the switch (you have to hold it two seconds to light, then tap to the desired brightness) but gobs of light for sure. Think this is the one I was looking for

Anyone doing a Christmas ham in their gasser this year?

Bruce not for Christmas, but I do one every thanksgiving on the 1000 because the oven inside is usually full of turkey. just make sure you put it in a pan as it will generate copious amounts of juice/fat, but it works well. I use cherry for the hams, apple for poultry

    Slicer Recommendations

We have an old Krupp LM. its a home version and mostly plastic. it has served us well, but even the cleanup on that one makes you really consider whether to bring it out and use it. It works good for roasts that are done particularly for sandwich's. Pork loins, eye rounds etc. You can really...

    HELP!! w/ Genesis 1000 restoration

Just drill it out and get on with it. File the surface of what remains of the bolt flat. Center punch it well so the bit won’t wander, and start with a small bit. Work you way up in bit size and what reamains will be gone in no time. Good luck. What’s funny is the burners I’ve bought from Weber...

Why do they show up so far away?!

Keep the vigil Tim you’ll find one. It’s not quick especially this time of year. You’ll see the most around Memorial Day and at the end of the season when all the box stores are pushing sales. Folks upgrade and need to get rid of the current cooker

Overall dimensions of Genesis Silver A (two burner)

Greg, to your original question. I have hauled 1000's and an A in my Subaru. I take a large yard size plastic bag, tarp, pliers and gloves. I lay the tarp in the cargo area. when I look at a grill and strike a deal, I immediately remove the hood, take out the grates, bars and drip pan and place...

Why do they show up so far away?!

All the grills I have gotten came out of the DC area. About a 160 round trip for me but the selection is good. Traffic not so much. Grew up there and it was not like it is now...insane :-) bumper to bumper anytime of day or night anymore, but $20-$30 for a decent grill to restore makes it worth...

    Is it worth rehabbing?
