Plastic Milk Jugs, gotta love 'em!

I have a couple around to use as growlers for taking homebrew places. Also use to freeze for ice when I run my recirc pump with plate chiller for cooling wort.

Best price on an 18.5" WSM?

My view is that if you compare price versus cooking space and ease of use to similar sized smokers, it's still pretty inexpensive. I used to sell grills/smokers at an ACE hardware. If you price a 22 WSM and a 22 OTG together it's less than a large BGE/nest and your cooking space out of the box...

    charcoal scoop

I use a stainless hand scoop I found at ACE hardware which I use for charcoal from bags and emptying the ash from the WSM.

    A lesson learned

I did my first comp a couple of weeks ago and it was a great learning experience. While I did practice a full run a couple of times, it's still different from the actual comp. I followed my plans with chicken and brisket and took 10th and 3rd. Didn't follow my plan with ribs and pork and...

    How often do you Barbeque?

Spring and fall usually grill 2-3x/week with a smoke every other weekend. Winter I smoke more/grill less. Summer I do both less but will smoke more meat per time than usual. Summer schedule is busier so less time to cook and more need of leftovers.

Confused how to improve pork scores

We both did good for our first contest. It was fun, learned a lot and met some fun people like Fred. I think the rib judging was all over the place. I did not have the same scoring differences in the other three categories. My appearance scores were close but my taste scores ranged 3-9 and...

    Competition Canopies

I'm doing my first comp next weekend and have reviewed and re-reviewed the regs and around here (i.e. county regs) I can give away my leftovers no problem. I'm actually happy with this as I'm doing the comp for more promoting myself, supporting the comp (1st year comp non-KCBS, hopefully will...

    Left Handed Cows and Brisket

Really don't know if this has been discussed before but I found interesting. At Amazing Ribs there is information on left handed cow briskets. Here's a quip: "told me that, with the fat side down, on a left-handed brisket, with the narrow part closest to you, the point will curve to the...

    Anyone ever regret the 22.5?

My only regret with my 22 is that I didn't buy 2 at the time (had the money). I've thought about getting a 18 in addition to but another 22 would benefit me more.

    Official Rules for Battle I

Just ran across this thread also. Like the idea of the three judges but just maybe there ought to be a members poll (with a deadline) not for an official judge but for a "peoples choice"/"fan favorite" award after the contest end just so more members can participate a little. Just a thought.

    so why Kingsford blue??

Pretty much agree with the answers above. Plus, around here, w/o a 80 mile minimum round trip, the best fuel is K and RO lump. I use Kingsford for longer cooks because it last longer in my WSM vs RO and I have tested it against the RO. I use RO for shorter cooks and grilling. With the 22 ash...

    Grilling & BEER

I've had the 90 and 120, actually prefer the 90. I am jealous of both coast when it comes to beer, I really like the DFH 90 over the 120 but also love the Pliney the Elder from Russian River. Have to drive a long ways to get either. Around here (NW Iowa) the best we get is Boulevard Single...
