Complete Smoker Newbie from Southern Ontario

Welcome Judd! Lots of good advice is available in this forum. Gloves, thermometer, and chimney starter are definite must haves in my book- as well as a good smoker book- I like to reference my copy of Webers "Smoke" cookbook. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is some form of wheels for your...

    Charcoal Sale

Anyone seen a good sale on charcoal? Usually around Christmas time the big box stores run a good sale, but I haven't seen any around here. Just wondering if I already missed it or if anyone is aware of a good sale coming up shortly.

Added Some Vents to the 18.5

I understand the need for high heat for crispy skin, but wonder is there an advantage of high heat in the WSM over a Weber Kettle? It seems to me that if high heat is needed I just need to use my kettle, if low and slow is needed than that calls for my WSM. Or is there an advantage to high heat...

    Turkey on the Roti

Rotisserie Turkey is "officially" my favorite way to do turkey. Followed very closely by deep frying. Yours' looks really good! My son is doing 2 birds tomorrow, 1 in the oven and 1 on the roti, guess which one I'm looking forward to!

Best Bird -- Kettle or WSM?

If you have a rotisserie for the kettle I would recommend that. Can't go wrong with a spinning big bird!

    USDA Prime Brisket: WOW!

Wow! That's the best looking brisket I can remember seeing! Really great job. I would love to taste a piece of that.

    Smoking in cold wether

I agree it's more about the wind than the temperature. I use my smoker more in the winter than I do in the summer. Guess I have more time on weekends in the winter, as I'm not busy doing things that require warmer temps. Anyway, using the minion method I just set and forget it. I have the WSM on...

WSM 18.5 - do you actually use your door for a 'typical' smoke?

Unless your door seal is so bad that you have a hard time controlling the temps I wouldn't worry about the seal. Some smoke escapes from various areas of my WSM but I don't worry about it. A load of briquettes is more than enough for my smoker to go 12 hours or more before the need to add more...

    Wisconsin > Dodgeville: Bob's B!tchin' BBQ

Bob's has a sampler of his sauces at the table, I think it's a 6 pack, when dining there and to be honest I don't remember how all his different flavors actually taste- except good! His Raspberry BBQ sauce which is sweet of course and is also our family's favorite! I'm guessing his regular sauce...

    Wisconsin > Dodgeville: Bob's B!tchin' BBQ

Love Bob's B!tchin BBQ! We've been there a couple times, great food and great sauces. We always buy a couple bottles of sauce to take home with us. Reminds me, we're out currently and we need to make a trip and load up again.

    Another boring chicken cook

What a coincidence, my doctor wants me to eat more chicken too! Where exactly do you live? Yummmmm- that looks good!

    Store Rotisserie Chicken versus Homemade

Bob, I'm with you! Although we buy and enjoy store made rotisserie chicken on occasion, I'll take my own home spun chicken-(or yours!), over store made any day.

    Kettle rotisserie

I love my rotisserie! I wouldn't want to be without it, John is correct-leg of lamb is the greatest off a rotisserie, and prime rib is also unbelievable on a rotisserie. Jim did a great job with the pics of different meats on the roti. Get a good basket- I really like my One Grill Performer...

Thinking of modding a gas rotisseire kit for my Weber Charcoal Grill...thoughts?

You'll be very happy with the Cajun Bandit ring, we love ours. I did like you and only ordered the ring from them, it came with the motor mount (but not the motor, already had that).

    Ribs on the 26"

Got a load of Baby Backs and also Country Style on our 26er right now. Takes about 4 hours, we leave the baby backs on until the ends of the ribs get exposed. Haven't tried country style on the 26 until today, so it'll be a learning experience. We've got the coals along 1 side, the country style...

    The TRI TIP

Tri-Tip is also great when done on the rotisserie, we gave it a spin for the first time a couple weeks ago and it turned out great. I'd already read about cutting across the grain carefully so I looked real good to make sure I cut it right.

I finally got one! WRK that is.

The Ranch makes my 26.75" look small, and my 26.75" isn't small! Nice catch, you'll love the extra room. One thing I really like about my 26.75" is I can use the rotisserie with the cooking grate still installed and have room for potatoes and veggies while rotisserie cooking at the same time...

    Got a Tractor Sprinkler

I assume your water pressure will influence how well it pulls your garden hose around the yard. I've always wanted to try one of these, but they don't give them away. Cool looking sprinkler though. It follows the path of the garden hose laying on the ground, correct?

I just ordered a stand mixer

I also got one of these more than 30 years ago and it's still running strong. These things are built like a tank! We also have the meat grinder and juicer attachments and they work great. We're confident the mixer will end up with our daughter when we can no longer use it. Who knows? It may...
