Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

Not just shilling for money, but getting paid by Google for views of the videos. Google has this complicated metric of how many views a video gets and how long people watch the video, when they cut them their share of the advertising money. That's why a lot of these YouTubers are long winded...

Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

Some YT creators have monetized their channels to the Nth degree. And at the same time lost some credibility. I'm a capitalist. I don't have any problem with people making money. But I'm also a consumer whose looking out for the best deal for me.

Brisket Test: Prime vs. Choice vs. Select | Mad Scientist BBQ

I do comparison cooks, usually comparing smokers. But I do them entirely for Mrs Dollar and I. Its about what we like. Taste is so very subjective, to do a comparison test and then use Mrs Dollar and my tastes as a barometer to put on YT and try to prove a point is worthless to anyone...

And now for something completely different. This was a benefit concert at a winery in Sonoma County, CA. And I think these ladies and enjoyed the vino

The Masterbuilt 800 Gravity Feed Charcoal Beast

Don't own nor ever cooked on one, but the people who compete with drums hang meat directly over the coals. The drippings from the meat hit the coals and put off a smoke that puts a unique flavor on the meats. Similar to direct grilling, except the meats are much further away from the coals...

The Masterbuilt 800 Gravity Feed Charcoal Beast

That's what I've heard. At first glance, why spend $1500 on a smoker that ya have to work on to get right. Then ya find that Academy will knock the price down for defects. Then compare the OCGF to Assassin 17 ( $3,200 ) , Southern Q Limo Jr ( $2,400 ) , or even a similar size Stump or...

The Masterbuilt 800 Gravity Feed Charcoal Beast

I'm guessing that was the 1050 ? Which would be a great price and what I've been looking for. But still a discount on the 560 which has an MSRP of $500. I found mine at WalMart for $250. And I honestly just bought it to play around with and thought I would sell it. I've been pleasantly...

Whether I use the offset or the MB just depends upon what I'm hungry for ;) Right now, I'm hungry for some Texas spare ribs. Whole spares, S/P , smoked on the offset stick burner. But meats like baby backs really don't gain that much from the stick burner, they're heavily seasoned...

The Masterbuilt 800 Gravity Feed Charcoal Beast

I smoke brisket and pork butt, the big meats, on my offset. But would have no problem with everything else on the MB . One of my first cooks on the MB was a cute little 9# brisket and it handled it just fine. But loading it up with meats that are gonna drip a lot of fats is something I...

The Masterbuilt 800 Gravity Feed Charcoal Beast

I use my MB560 a lot . This past summer when it was 100 degree plus, I used the MB instead of sitting with the Franklin offset. I like it as a smoker far more than a grill. I do my grilling and searing on a Kettle. But the MB560 is a rib cooking machine.

    Judged my first KCBS event

I've been tempted to do that, one of these days. I bet it is an experience. I think I'd prefer judging a backyard event, rather than a real comp. Cuz I wanna see what other people's barbecue taste like.

Looking to add a bigger & better thermometer for my WSM 18"

I have a Teltru on my WSM , and my Masterbuilt GF , and my Franklin offset. But they never agree with my Thermoworks digital. On the WSM the Teltru always runs around 20* lower than my digital. On the Masterbuilt it runs higher as it does on the Franklin. And on the Franklin, I place...
