    Soon to be new owner

I have all 3 sizes so I'll lend my observations. I started with an 18 probably some time in the late 90s or early 2000s, then bought a 22 when it came out. I do pretty much everything on the 22, but mainly just because of all the aftermarket parts I've put on it and the 18 is about worn out...

Thermocouple Noise When Using 2.4G Wifi

I'm showing my ignorance here: Is this with a thermocouple or a sourced signal? Wondering if a grounded TC would make any difference. I like the Faraday cage idea.

Easy smoke source for hot or cold

I was thinking too hard about the Hunsaker Vortex. I figured if the flow really spiraled it would need more places to exhaust in order to get the vortex effect. Not more exhaust volume, just more locations. I can open each of the 4 dampers up 25% to equal one damper fully open. In theory it...

Easy smoke source for hot or cold

The ATC fitting is 1in and the hose is 2in. The ATC fitting is also too low in relation to the grill. I had a spare door and the 2in conduit fitting fit the hose. This way I can just swap doors and never have to take the hose clamps off. If this gets used a lot I'll just cut a hole in the drum...

Easy smoke source for hot or cold

Used A-MAZ-N tray for the smoke. Works pretty well.

    Smoke X output

Has anyone tried to figure out the control output on the Smoke X? I need to figure out what makes it go into controller mode and what/where the output is. I'd like to build an interface for controlling a resistive load. I'm sure I could just order the Billows and grab the signal to the fan, but...

Heads up on Cajun Bandit Cylinder Lock Kit...

Well... I bought the kit that included the wheels. Not a fan of the cylinder locks, so I took them off. Just not a great design. Loosening the locks would sometimes loosen the bolt. Sometimes the locks also get in the way when putting the cylinder in place. I can see why they may want to...

    22.5 e-wsm

First rib cook went well. Maintained 280 without issue. Ribs were excellent. Looks like I can get another 1k watts with a broiler element, so 3500. I'll try this to see if it's worth the trouble. What the WSM really needs is insulation to reduce the required energy needed. Overall I'm really...

    How to use AP mode

You just debunked Einstein"s definition of insanity. I've been trying to do that for years.

    22.5 e-wsm

240v e-wsm did fine for jerky. Pretty steep temp gradient though.

    Setpoint tracking

Any way to do this? I'd like the setpoint to rise with the meat temp. For instance the setpoint would always be 25 degrees above the meat temp. I know this is probably asking a lot because it would have to know which probe to follow.

    Midsection clamps???

The clamps mostly help when you have a lid hinge. A raised lid with no load in the mid section is pretty unstable, but that's a side effect of adding the hinge, not a design flaw. The Cajun Bandit style clamps allow the mid section to be rotated in any position since they only mount to the base...

    Help! Cajun Bandit Door Installation?!

I added the gasket to mine. Made a big difference in the seal. I glued the gasket to the smoker, not the door.

    22.5 e-wsm

Well...SS cook went great. Ran it for 20 hours with no issues. Held temp all night with an ambient 25 degrees and no wind.

    22.5 e-wsm

240 test build completed. First the bad part: I didn't get the massive heat advantage I expected. I can only hit 250 on a cold day with an empty smoker. Now the good: It controls much better at SS temps and I no longer need the stacker to get enough vertical space to hang the sausages. I put the...

    Help! Cajun Bandit Door Installation?!

I got the CB door with latch. No problems and the latch is much better than the OEM. Can you post a pic of the CB door and the latch you have? The CB door is much better on the 22. I also bought one for the 14 and had no issues.

    Reverse Voltage fried my HeaterMeter

Sounds like adding a diode for protection might be a good idea. I think the 1.2 drop shouldn't affect anything but the fan. I'll add one externally in my supply lead to see what happens.

    minimum servo opening while running.

FWIW, I never use the servo to kill the smoker. My concern is heat soak with no air flowing through the plastic to cool it down. I remove the servo and cover the opening with foil. Your setup may be different though. I've considered using a pipe to get the servo further from the cooker.

    22.5 e-wsm

I moved this from another thread to prevent hijacking it: With the Cajun Bandit Stacker installed I could only hit 177 degrees. Ambient was around 40. Disclaimer: Don't try this unless you know what you're doing: Looks like the 240 element will be needed to easily maintain higher temps. I'll...
