    How thirsty are the 22s?

I did a hot and fast brisket a few weeks ago in my 22WSM and I was pleasantly surprised how efficient it was. Plenty of charcoal left after shutting it down.

    Osh going out of business

Everything still 10% off. So many people stocking up on stuff...that isn't really a deal at 10% off? Buy the discount, not the hype. I'll head back when it's 30+%

    Thank you

Glad you were able to grab it. My in-laws are from Merced. I'm down that way every now and again.

    Wsm

Yeah I saw that one too. It's pretty clean for $150. Most parts of the country it would be gone in an hour. Out here...$150 is about the max you'll probably get for a used one. There is one locally still listed at $175; and has been for months.

    wallmart western lump

It does have a little bit of a creosote smell when it starts...but it doesn't stink like some lump I've used. It's also fairly clean once it's hot and going. I'm kinda with you...Its starting to drop to $3-5 a bag...debating on whether to get more. For grilling it's fine, but not sure I'd pick...

    Does It Matter?

Most commercial pork is basically the same. Even some comp guys who have gone to heritage breeds say they can't tell much of a difference in the final product. I will say... I have recently been purchasing Swift Premium from Costco and have noticed a darker color in the raw meat and a better...

temperature control - how fussy are you?

It really depends on what I'm cooking, where, and for whom. Comp style ribs or a brisket? You bet I have it dialed in to a 10-20 degree window; trying to be as surgically precise as possible. At home with most other pork/poultry...I'm a little more liberal with things. Just as long as the...

18.5” WSM - how many racks of baby backs ribs?

I've personally hung 8 racks in an 18WSM with a gateway hanger.

    New smoker, 22" vs. ? ??

I'd say if you already own a 22WSM... get a 14" I usually see used 18WSM's in the area that are usually cheaper than any used 14's.

    wallmart western lump

Ehhh...it's mesquite for sure. It doesn't smell close to RO lump or most higher end briquettes. Let's put it this way...its a little pungent, but not offensive. I have smelled some lump that is straight up foul when burning (like burning garbage)! I smelled my chimney and kettle the next day...

    Roadside Chicken

I tried the RSC recipe today with some chicken quarters on the 26.75" with the SNS (no water) and Western Lump...DELICIOUS! When I first whipped up the marinade it smelled like salad dressing (and can seriously be used as such). I subbed a pinch of celery seed and a few shakes of salt (in...

    Western Lump from Walmart review

I just got 10 bags for $3 each. I figure it will do the job. Thanks for the review!

    Used 26'' Kettle Value?

I'd say exceptional would be around the $200...not a penny more. That's because you can get a NIB for around $225 depending on the Lowe's coupon you have and the MyLowes Card in your pocket. Most other's I'd put around $125-$150. $160 isn't shabby at all! I've gotten them for $150....and less...

    wallmart western lump

Still $7.88 here and $5/$3 bag respectively within striking distance. I haven't bought any yet, but am thinking of getting some of the $3 per bag called in as a favor.

    Alternative parts for WSM makeover?

You could go with a cheap plated 18" grate for the top. The spacing of the rods is a little wider than what comes stock on the WSM, but is $13 as opposed to $35 and works just the same.

2018 Grills N Grilles BBQ Contest Cancelled: Please Donate!

It's a bummer. I was going to compete in the backyard portion this year. I got an email of the cancellation the other day.

    My first Beef Clod

When I used to pick orders of meat at a major grocery warehouse I used to see cases and large cryos of it quite a bit as "Shoulder Clod." I can honestly say I have never seen it packaged as a whole clod in any stores. Pretty sure most places cut it up and sell it as chuck (which it technically is).
