My DigiQ BBQ Guru - I know it's been said before but...

Hello Roger...I got a DigiQ myself for Christmas planning on trying it this weekend. If it works like everyone raves, may consider getting a second one...for when I want to run my Kamado and my WSM. Do the chrome plugs come with it also, I haven't had a chance to open mine yet to see everything...

    First cook with 18.5"

Agreed...chicken needs to be between 300-350. I'm looking to a "WingFest" with some of my buddies sometime soon to really brake in my 18.5, different marinades and dry rubs...going to add some corn starch in with a favorite rub, good eats right there!

    First cook with 18.5"

My first cook on my 18.5 was chicken thighs, no water pan, and kept it to 325-350. The dampers will take some getting used to controlling you temp. Congrats and good luck on the WSM!

18.5 WSM with hinge accessory cover problem

Steve and RParker....I got a hinge for my 18.5....I have heard some mixed reviews on the ease of getting the hinge on with the top lined up and the such. Did you have any issues with putting it on the cooker? Any tips you can pass along, that could help me when I do mine? Thanks

Hinge install - gasket adhesive on nuts/bolts?

Dang....what I thought was going to be a somewhat easy add-on, is making me second guessing adding it on all together. I haven't had a chance to even open the hinge unit yet, due to work this time of year..after reading this thread! Might just be easier not to add it one and just put the lid on...

Hinge install - gasket adhesive on nuts/bolts?

Hello Roger R, I got a new 18.5 but had the "out of round"...basically my top grate was not sitting securely on the L bracket. If I hit the top grate, it would have fallen in the cooker, food and all. So I got 3 stainless steel washers and put them between the cooker and each the L bracket...

Hinge install - gasket adhesive on nuts/bolts?

I just got the hinge for my 18.5...was curious on the same question posted, about sealing it. After reading I'm gonna pass. I did the washer mod as well to stabilize my top bracket on L brackets.... Looking forward to get my first rib cook on it! -Rob

Got the first cook in on my 18.5...need some direction on a mod

Thanks for all the input...the top grate just wasn't fitting as secure as I would have expected. After reading that a lot of users had the same issue I felt a bit better it just wasn't my unit that was defective. That being said am I happy about needing to add washers to stabilize the top grate...

Got the first cook in on my 18.5...need some direction on a mod

Hello John...thank you for the in-depth explanation. What I planned on doing was buying fender washers and putting them between the drum an L bracket....but I would greatly appreciate any/all pics that you could post. By "spacers"... Do you mean anything to put space between the unit and the L...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions...I think I may go with the stainless steel zip ties now versus the 2 ss hose clamps. Appreciated!

    Charcoal grate mod..

Hello, I have a 18.5 and was planning on doing a mod on the charcoal grate to create my version of a kick ash basket. I was going to get the smaller size charcoal grate, move it to create the #....I then planned on getting 2 stainless steel hose clamps to loop through the grates and up through...

Got the first cook in on my 18.5...need some direction on a mod

Charlie ...how many fender washers did you use on each bracket to fix the issue? Also what size washers should I get? Did it solve the problem? I was told 2 washers on the top of the bracket and 1 washers on the bottom bracket to really tighten it all up. -Rob

Got the first cook in on my 18.5...need some direction on a mod

I will have to take a look closer today. The top rack fit like 3/4 the way, it would clearly fall in the drum if one bumped it with a cooking utensil. I can try to squeeze the mid section to see if it brings the L brackets in closer to ensure the top racks sits firmly on the 4 hinges. If not I...
