Finally wrapped up the G1K refurb

Thanks. The serial number on the side comes back as a '98.

Finally wrapped up the G1K refurb

Took a while to get 'round to it, but got the original wood table slats refinished. I like them much better than the grey durawood I was using temporarily.

    Best way to pull pork

I use the claws because they came 'free' when I bought a pair of those orange silicone gloves on Amazon. They work really well, but I too want to try the Kitchen Aid method.

Kingsford Charcoal Lighter vs. the Chimney Throw Down and Dinner

So, the debate ends. Thanks to you and Barb for taking the time to do this. It'd be interesting to test (under the same conditions) what happens when you use lighter fluid and the chimney together, strictly from a time standpoint. I'll be the combination is pretty quick.

    what holds cart frame together

There are tabs attached to one side of the frame, nothing slides inside. Weber no longer makes the frame or frame parts for them. This link should take you to an exploded view. If it doesn't work, go to weber.com and follow the links in parts and support...

Start Your Car, Not Your Grill

Does said guinea pig get any kind of stipend? A roll of Tums, perhaps?

After Way Too Many Digital Thermometers............

Say whuuutttt? I have to put new batteries in my Mav 733 almost every cook. I thought it was normal, but odd. Maybe I should contact them.

Stainless vs Cast Iron Grill Grates

I used to ebay all the time and had positives in the thousands. I had two consecutive bad experiences as a seller, where the buyer reported damage that wasn't there and got paypal to hold my money. It was only after I 'settled' for the 'damage' (ie, had to provide a discount) that I got the rest...

Stainless vs Cast Iron Grill Grates

    Well, that's unfortunate.

Stainless vs Cast Iron Grill Grates

Anyone have RCPlanebuyer's contact info? Don't want to ebay.

Stainless vs Cast Iron Grill Grates

Those from RCPlane are the solid bars, correct? I am kind of running cold on the semi-circle hollow style grates that came with the grill. I think either the CI or solid bars would hold heat better for searing.

    Cut Country Style Ribs

CSR's come from the shoulder (butt), also called the 'blade-end loin'. The cut is the same, the only thing different is the name. At any rate, that's a dang purdy dish, looks delicious.

    Skool me on Squash, Please.

Cut diagonally or slice across, brush with Olive Oil and add salt, pepper, some garlic powder, maybe onion powder if you're so inclined. Grill both sides until marked. I like to use one of those grilling baskets or sheets to stop suicides. Another variation on the scooped out half squash is...

7 Old Wives' Tales About Cooking Steak

+1. I've seen it before, although I don't believe it was here, seems like maybe at Amazing Ribs. Interestingly, in each recipe 'Weber's Big Book of Burgers' recommends flipping only once. I've never looked too much at the general info section to see if he explains why, but I suspect it is...

Genny 1000 back burner not lighting

Sounds like a spider got in the system somewhere and made a web, or some other critter is plugging it up. Are the spider guards in place? I would disassemble and clean really well, run a coat hanger up in there and blow everything out with an air hose if you have one. Check the controls too...

You're filling your propane tanks right, not exchanging?

Next time you exchange one, try and weigh it before you use any gas. Exchange tanks are notorious for having around 15lbs. of gas, not 20. An empty propane tank weighs between 16.5 and 17.5 lbs., supposedly. The weight is stamped on the valve shroud/handle. I've weighed them myself and found...

You're filling your propane tanks right, not exchanging?

We have a propane delivery place in town that until this summer filled tanks. I always went there. This year they said their filling station isn't certified. I suspect they stopped messing with it because so many people exchange they weren't making any money. I've heard most people find out they...

You're filling your propane tanks right, not exchanging?

$8.96 today to fill a completely empty 20 pound tank, way less than exchanging. I've filled three this season for less than $30. I usually use Tractor Supply, it seems most of the them refill propane but not all. My local Hdwe is putting in a fill station now, waiting for their certification.

    Beer & Pork ´ö` Steaks

The ability to laugh at ourselves about our mistakes is an important element. Want some of mine? How about the time I tried a new brining method on 25 lbs. of ribs. We had 12 people over and the star of the meal was salt. The ribs were wasted and inedible. Well beyond some uncooked sweet...
