    Great restore! I love my Genesis Jr it's a great little grill! I was stationed in Schweinfurt in the early 80's and traveled around Bavaria as much as time would allow.

    For the rust spots put a light coat of cooking oil and get your grill hot that will stop the rust. As for the Thermo I think Tel Tru makes one that will fit the bezel that is around the OEM thermo.

    The grate temp is what I would go with as the lid mounted Thermo is going to be hotter than the grate YMMV.

    Next time you want to reduce your temps close the bottom vents,if you try to reduce your temps with the top vent you can get nasty smoke and taste due to the smoke being restricted exiting the kettle.
