OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

My experience is the opposite, I find odd stuff in Cowboy, but mostly in the way of cabinet cutoffs and such, haven't got any clay or anything in BBQG yet. On the naked whiz they pulled out an aluminum can from Cowboy, if I recall correctly. I like the quality of the oak hardwood, if I have a...

    What a disappointment...

Had a potluck for my company today for our Halloween party. Got up at 5:00am to cook some ribs, and smoked them for almost 5 hours at 250-275. One rack was spoiled and had a section in the center of the meat which was spoiled in the center. I couldn't tell if something smelled odd or not, but...

    DIY Auto Temp Control

I have been saying for a couple months that an arduino could do this task, that is the Atmel processor. I need to read that closer to see where I can get those probes, but have been thinking to cannibalize a meat probe to see if I can attach a couple wires on it. Anyone know where to get the...

    Extruded Coconut Charcoal Just Arrived!!

*lol* Sounds like the way I do things...I once showed up at home with 1200 bf of hard maple that I got a deal on, and my son said to my wife, "this is the way Dad thinks..." At the rate I'm going, I wouldn't mind having a pallet of Lazzari Hardwood Lump.

OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

Same with me, I just turn the chimney upside down and put lump in the bottom. Works fine, and gives me just a bit of hot coals which works perfect for me.

    Extruded Coconut Charcoal Just Arrived!!

Good thing, cause you bought a pallet of the stuff! (or at least part of one)

OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

John, If you go up to the city, I would be in for a bag to compare, most certainly, let me know if so. For me, the mesquite lump is much more difficult to break up, and is almost impossible to break up in your hands. The hardwood lump breaks up nicely, and it seems the consistency is much...

OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

Steve, I only took those names off the web site, I wonder if Rocklin was the Sacramento store? Chris, Same exact situation since the acquisition, I don't get the impression they have received any new product, unless they can scavenge something from the warehouse that was for another store...

OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

Chris, Try the hardwood lump from BBQ Galore. There are stores in Davis, Sacramento, Folsom, and Citrus Heights.

OK, I've been converted. I'm a lump guy now

So John, Tell me something. Isn't the texture and quality of the hardwood lump from BBQ Galore quite different than the mesquite lump? I'm not sure if you have tried the Lazzari mesquite lump, but it is completely different. The hardwood (looks like oak to me) lump will break up easily in your...

How Should I have Saved My Ribs?

Did you have water in the pan? I use a clay pot liner with no water (foil over the clay). I did 4 racks on the upper grate, and 250 at the grate, and I cooked them for about 5 hours. The meat pulled off pretty easily. Since the top of the lid is hotter, I would say you didn't have the smoker...

    HH Brisket and Loinbacks

Whoa...you mentioned last week that you had gone overboard on the little shed, but I don't think so. That is very nice! You will be gloating come winter! (it's coming, season is changing out west even...) Food looks great and the shed kicks the butt off a pork shoulder! Nice setup!

What are YOU smoking this weekend?

I was gonna say something last night, but then I saw the plate they are on, and it looks like it says, "The Agony of Burnt Meat", so I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not. None the less, I'm doin' some ribs up, but spares cut st. louis style, and trying something a tad different than most of...
