    4yr status update

Ya know Bruce...I noticed that the back burner was not lit all the way across recently and one of the casters gave way making it teeter a bit. That’s what it took to get me to push it into the shop

    4yr status update

Well...it’s been 4 yrs since the restore of my daily cooker. A 1000 greenie. Quite possibly the best LP cooking device I’ve ever owned. So today I decided to roll it into the shop give it a good once over. Some observations to share. 4yrs ago the burners were replaced with A new Weber set...

    Emblem/Badge question

Great replies guys thanks! I have a couple emblems to practice on. If I fudge it I can always sand back off and try again.

    Emblem/Badge question

I really like the 'Red Grill' on some of the badge plates I see you guys doing. How are you painting the grill? I have a fairly steady hand, but still not sure if I could do it clean with a brush. The ones I see on here sure look good, I was just wondering how it was accomplished.

    Another Skyline!

Really Nice Ralph.i picked one up back in April, but on tear down found so much rust I was a bit discouraged. I set it aside for a bit as I had to get one ready for my DIL so I opted for a Silver B. Now the Skyline looms in the corner of the shop. I guess I’ll have to get back into it. The frame...

In praise of “lowly” porcelain-plated stamped steel grates

I’m with ya Jon. My first restore about 4 yrs ago I think was a 1000 that had stamped porcelain grates. They were still in fairly good shape so I opted to just keep using them while I shopped for an upgrade replacement. They looked original from the 20yr old grill and I just retired them...

    Bruce, u da man

Bruce, just simple green and steel wool. But finished off with some auto polish and the buffer 👍

    Bruce, u da man

So in researching the thermoset table restore, I came across many posts, videos, recommendations etc. from specific specialty cleaners to sanding on and on. Had some pretty nasty looking tables, and all the simple green and steel wool didn’t seem to be working. But Bruce, suggests the most...

    Jammed casters

    Thanks G. I’ll give it a shot

    Jammed casters

Well Brian 6 of em comes to close to $40. The ones I’ve gotten before have the square shank insert that fits into the frame included and run $6-7. That’s capital I could put towards grates and bars of better quality if There was a way to bring them back to life and why I asked. I’ve got surplus...

    Jammed casters

Shot in the dark here. The last 3 restore prospects I’ve obtained ( 2 Silver Bs and a Skyline) ALL have jammed casters on them. I must have been lucky until now as the others I’ve done (older 90s models) still roll freely. I know they are available and can be replaced, but wanted to check with...

    Prime rehabbers weekend

Wow the holiday grill sales have been kind to me this year. Just grabbed the second Silver B in two weeks. Listed in Fee stuff on CL. Great Frame, CI grates that show hardly any wear. small drip pan missing, bars pretty far gone, burners and crossover salvageable. So with three scores in the...

    Thermo plastic table restore

Thanks Jon. Luckily I have an extra control panel from a 1000 that I think is the same. I’ll give sanding a try. Thanks again for the tip.

    Thermo plastic table restore

Picked a Silver B this week and the tables have what looks like grease stains. I’ve tried degreaser and steel wool. Some barkeepers friend as well. Not doing the trick. This is the first one I’ve done with these tables. Any tips on getting these clean? I’m also having trouble getting the control...

    Prime rehabbers weekend

Grabbed a Silver B for $40. Burners, and bars replaced just a few months ago. Recent CI grates. Guys wife came across a Memorial Day sale and got him a new spirit. He had mixed emotions about letting it go, but the Mrs had just surprised him with the new one. Already have a Skyline project...

    Genesis Cover

I've got several King Kong covers. Very well made durable covers so far, but as Jon says they don't breathe as well as the old Weber covers Ive had with the screen vent. Very good bang for the buck though

    2003 Greentop Performer restore

I was able to fit a 20# table under my SS performer by removing the mounting bar and turning it around. Leaves enough space so it sits on the frame and I’m still able to reach through the original access to turn on the propane. I use a ratcheting cargo strap to hold it it place. Works quite well...

    Helping out the average joe

Once folks get the bug, there's more competition for the CL deals in your area. Then there's the guy that posts on CL that he will pick up your used Webers free of charge to 'Save Them From The Landfill'.

    Defrosting a chicken

    T. We always have 4-6 roasters in the freezer. I pull them out rock hard about 9 in the morning and drop into a water bath before leaving for the office. Return about 6-7 hrs later and almost always have to run more water through to remove the ice block inside before trussing. We have a...
