    This is silly, but I cut a "pot hanger" notch in a stick. I use it all the time to open the grill to add coals, rotate the grill, grab the hot grill if it sat too close to the chimney when hanging on the side of the kettle, etc. Simple, Free, and effective. The notch looks like this...

    Thoughts on gaskets on a 26"?

    I put some red high temp RTV on the rim of mine and it works great. No leaks at all. vaseline on the rim of the kettle so you don't weld the thing together, and let it cure. I did a burn on it before I started cooking with it to be sure it was cured all the way around, and it's great.

    I was browsing craigslist for grills, when I saw a nice weber kettle. It's newer and has all the features that my older one doesn't, like the ash pan, heat shield on the lid, and temp gauge. Took it home, pressure washed what little crud there was, and it's good as new. I didn't really need...

    I have been to Lowes, Home Depot, ACE, True Value, (local) Bi-Mart and none of them have anything but the basic weber kettle.

    I just installed a Bi-Metallic "Tel-Tru" thermometer...

    Been out of the game for a good long while. The tel-tru is still running strong after years of sitting outside in the elements. it's a 50-500 with no calibration control.

    I got tired of the cheap candy thermo I had and decited to see what I could do about getting a quality thermometer in my kettle. I called around and found a local place that had these little 50-500 tel-tru thermos in stock. $20.00 for this one and it appears to be well built. I'll report back...

    Thanks! They were really good. I'm going to try the same thing only using apple wood in stead of mequite this time. Just to see what the differance is. -Mark.
