First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

It's going  There's so much to do, and it's also difficult to avoid giving in to mission-creep. Just have to keep focused on the twin prime directive(s): structurally sound and fully functional. The July 4 goal still seems workable.

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

More action today. Cleaned the Junior's grates and the cast iron grates from the 3000. The stock grates have some rust on the bottom but are otherwise solid and clean enough to cook on. The cast iron grates cleaned up nicely, but of course, need to be modified to fit the Junior. Rather than...

McMaster Z Bars and black plastic washers - comparison pictures with originals

Perhaps someone else can chime in, but I don't think it's recommended. I believe there's a reason why Weber went with nylon instead of metal for use between the metal bolt head and the metal frame. It's the same way on my SSP--except they also use aluminum washers to go between the nylon...

McMaster Z Bars and black plastic washers - comparison pictures with originals

As part of my Genesis Junior project, I placed an order with McMaster-Carr for stainless hardware, and some additional bits to experiment with: a 1-foot section of aluminum z bar ($3.21) and a 100-pack of black nylon washers ($9.81). In searching the forums, I saw much discussion of the MM...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Progress update 6/15/20. Placed my first order for supplies: 100 truss head screws for the wood shelves, high heat paint for the cookbox and sides and a $9 grill brush . . . Which I took apart, straightened out and attached to my cordless drill to brush the insides of the frame (shown here...

    Weber Red Top Lid

I just shipped the same lid, with end caps, plus a few other bits for $35 with FedEx Home Delivery. It was only going from NJ to Western PA. Perhaps that's why the rate was so low. Removing the end caps and placing them inside the lid helped to reduce the package size, and with it, the...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Not wrong. I'd likely use an angle grinder to finish the correct shape for the burner hole. This was just a test to see how serious of a bit would be required to make a nice round hole. For now, I'm going to go back to focusing on getting everything else ready for reassembly with the stock...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

A practice run on the 3000 firebox for cutting a third burner hole on the Junior: A 1" Harbor Freight spade bit handled the box without much drama. The fit is a bit snug, so some filing (or a larger spade bit) will be required when it's time to work on the Junior's firebox. More to come . . .

    Rehabing a 2008 S-320. To much rust?

I have the same grill (except NG)--purchased new in 2008. It's lived outside its whole life and has the same issue with the floor rotting out. Last year there was more rot than floor, so I removed what was left of the rusty metal floor and put in pressure-treated boards. It's not pretty, but...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Correct. The picture shows Junior burners on a 3000 manifold. I may try to cut and crimp the 3000's middle burner for test-fit purposes. I'm leaning toward trying it because I already have an outside NG hookup, but I'll need to mull it over a bit more before committing to cutting into the...

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

I think so too -- it just leaves less shelf space on the right side and it gives an alternate location for the igniter.

First gasser rehab - Genesis Jr. - Modified with 3rd burner

Some progress made. I found a buyer for the 3000 lid and some other bits. That will allow me to focus on the Junior instead of trying to deal with two rehabs at one . . . After further disassembly on the Junior, I think I'm going to do an "8/10-restore-to-solid-cooker" job on it...

    18.5 WSM plus extras

UPDATE 5/6/19: SOLD After much debate, I've decided to sell my 18.5 WSM. Originally, it was a DZ code smoker, but the center section was replaced with a newer one with the grommet built in. Comes with a Cajun Bandit door and latch. I added garage door handles on the center section and...
