Gunk stuck to the bottom of my kettle

Gunk stuck to the bottom of my kettle

I just got mine and have used it only four times or so, using only about half a chimney of Kingsford. I'm thinking that I'm not using enough Kingsford and should user at least 3/4 chimney for more heat and "char flavor".

Gunk stuck to the bottom of my kettle

Yes the bottom. So with your unit you kinda' are not really fastidious with spic and span cleanliness of the bottom part?!?!?

Gunk stuck to the bottom of my kettle

...and it's really stubborn to remove. Should the kettle be preheated with some charcoal followed by scraping the gunk with a stainless steel brush or what? Maybe some Easy Off oven cleaner, would it harm porcelain finish?

Hinged cooking grates for 18 inch kettle questions

Without using a rib rack, you mean place one rack of ribs onto the other, lift the hinged grate then add charcoal? Seems like the lid isn't domed high enough to use rib racks themselves.

Hinged cooking grates for 18 inch kettle questions

Seems like if I used the 18 incher for two racks of ribs, wouldn't they be too large to open the hinged sides for adding more briquettes, requiring removing the entire grate to add more briquettes??? I really need some replies. TIA!

    Do we need a chimney?

Amazon and Amazon Prime aren't always the cheapest. I purchased a Weber Kettle, Cover, and chimney directly from Weber and received free shipping.

    Trouble with the mail?

A former FedEx driver stated that USPS does route sharing with FedEx. So the package you sent priority tracking sometimes gets dropped into a FedEx sack that won't be mailed until it fills up. I've several times had priority tracking shipments that disappeared once they reached JAX only to...

National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day

My first quiche was made using a two piece tart mold. When placing it into the oven the filling leaked all over the place and it was then I learned to place the mold onto a baking sheet. You learn once.

    Running an empty water pan

I'm lazy but it fits right inside of the bowl. Take a tape measure and measure yours and purchase the terra cotta at a slightly smaller diameter. Or take the bowl with you to the store, Lowes or whatever.

    BBQ/Grilling Cookbooks

TIME-LIFE rules and I've been using them since the 1970s when I first resided in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, just down the street from Pig By The Tail, Chez Panisse and Cocolat. Lenny's Meat Market and not too far away from ACME BREAD COMPANY when they first got their start at Kensington Circle...

    Do we need a chimney?

When you invert the chimney, does the charcoal actually ignite with the burner paper lying so far below them?????

Coleman fuel and white gas burn off much much cleaner than lighter fluid.

    Do we need a chimney?

I just got a replacement large chimney along with other Weber goodies directly from Weber. Free S&H and the chimney itself costed $21. It will soon replace my original chimney that's twenty-three years old and slowly crumbling. 8'''''((
