    Just bought a 14" WSM

Thanks for all the input folks. Definitely gonna relocate the heat shield. Re: the handle, I'm going to add one if for no other reason than for a place to hang my Maverick.

    Just bought a 14" WSM

Fortunately I have a stone seating wall at the end of my patio that it is the perfect height for the little buy. I put a piece of concrete board under it to stabilize the unit.

Tips from those who built a WSM cart

I don't have a cart but with regard to a wind break I bought an inexpensive welding blanket from HF along with a few spring clamps. It works works well and folds up easily for storage. Just wrap it around the smoker, leave a little room for air and clamp in place. Unless you live in a...

    Howdy from Houston!

Hi Wyatt. Welcome to the forum. You'll never regret the time you spend here. I love Houston. Spent a lot of time there in 98 and 99 consulting for an oil services company. Loved the city. Well not so much in August. I know Houston is a pretty big place but do you have any idea if the "Ragin...

    New smoker, 22" vs. ? ??

Thought it would be nice if I ended the threat. The other day I purchased a gently used 14". Smoked a chicken on it the other evening. Now I'm looking for mod suggestions but that's in another thread. Thanks to all of you who took time to read my post.

    Just bought a 14" WSM

I thought I posted this thread the other night but for the life of me I can't find it. In the event I'm having a senior moment I apologize up front. So about 15 years ago I bought a cheapie Brinkman smoker. Eight years later I happened upon this great website (Thanks Chris). After much reading...

    New smoker, 22" vs. ? ??

Thanks to Lew and Dave for the input. It is very helpful. As mentioned, I have seen a number of 18.5s and zero 14s on CL. As I'm getting a little long in the tooth I will certainly take the suggestions to heart. On another note, my apologies to all for posting this thread in the wrong forum...

    New smoker, 22" vs. ? ??

Thanks to both Tim and Dustin. As mentioned I'll continue to follow CL and local yard sales to see what I can find. Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?

    New smoker, 22" vs. ? ??

I am currently the proud owner of a WSM 22" I have had it for about 5 years and love it. Yes it's big but for family smokes, it's great. Also have an old Brinkman about 15 years old and beginning to develop rust holes. I'd like to replace it with another WSM hopefully to be found on CL. Here's...

    Hi from TX

Chad, welcome to the forum. As a amateur smoker I spend a lot of time on the site trying to learn and perfect my skills. Everyone here is very helpful and I continue to learn a lot. Good luck and welcome aboard.

WSM...Can you smoke/BBQ in the rain?

Ditto to what Dustin said. I've used a patio umbrella in the rain many times. When you need to smoke, you need to smoke, rain or no rain. I would only add that if you use the umbrella pay attention to the wind. An umbrella without a table to stabilize it can become a missle.

    Bark or no bark

I've got an Apple orchard a few miles away. I think I can get some limb cuttings. Worst case, I'll buy some. Question: how long do they need to dry without overlaying and, should I strip the bark off? Than you

    Wanted: Weber grill in blue

Thanks Pat. I'm really interested in the "Weber Original Kettle 22 In. Premium Charcoal Grill". Call me picky, it's OK. My wife does. The Performer is a little more grill than I want. I constantly monitor CL in my regional area. Hopefully, patience will prevail.

    Wanted: Weber grill in blue

A few years ago, Weber made the classic 22" kettle in blue. OBVIOUSLY, it was not a big hit. As my outside area is mostly decorated with large blue pots containing flowers, I think a nice blue Weber kettle would be a welcome addition to my patio. I live in southwestern Connecticut. Any thoughts...

    Smoking mussels

Really. I know we're mostly beef, pork and chicken cookers but nobody has tried mollusks?

Brisket & Burnt Ends Overnighter on the 26er

Pat, everything looks beyond amazing. You have definitely raised the bar for all of us. I do have a question, you reference increasing your snake from 2X2 to 3x3, aren't you afraid that it will really increase your cook temp? Thank you.

    Opinions please on lighting charcoal

Thank you to all who read and responded. I learned d a lot. Particular thanks to Jay re: the oxygen comment. Makes lots of sense. My conclusion: Want a hotter temp quicker, use the can. Lower, slower with more control, fewer lit ones scattered on the top of the unlit. Thank again.

    Opinions please on lighting charcoal

I've been Qing for about 10 years and most always use the minion method of lighting the charcoal in my 22". Depending on what I'm smoking sometimes I really fill the ring and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I put a metal can in the middle of the unlit for the hots and sometimes I just dump them on...

    Smoking mussels

Been watching "Man, Fire, Food" and "Primal Grilling" on television during which both shows smoked mussels using pine needles as the source of smoke and, in the case of MFF, the heat source. Have any of you tried smoking mussels or oysters with pine needles or any thing else for that matter? Did...
